Akinlar Schools Visit to Fethiye
« on: December 15, 2011, 21:40:45 PM »
As I posted in a previous post, we visited this school in the mountains a couple of weeks ago and as there wasnt any way we could of been a big help with the actual school building which is crumbling and also the headmaster hopes to have government help to rebuild, He did express a wish that the children could see life outside the village

For that reason we at FiG worked very hard and quickly to arrange that the 3 eldest classes could come down to Fethiye to see the sea and visit the beach for the first time in their lives

Anyway today they came, 1st to the museum where a lot of press were waiting for them as they were very interested in this new type of project and wanted to see the childrens reaction to being here

The children enjoyed a lovely tour with a very interesting talk by the museum guy, they were interested to see the artifacts from Tlos, which is very near their home villages

Next we walked to the seafront where we had arranged for a  professional photographer to take class and School photos for every child to have a momento for home

Next the coach took us around to the Ampitheatre where the children saw the staue of Fethiye Bay, we the walked along the seafront, stopping for 15 minutes for them to play in the playground near Address Restaurant and also for a drink

Onto McDonalds which i think was a highlight of their day! They loved the Happy Meals with the toys and the McDonalds staff were lovely and gave them Party Hats and Balloons as they left

An impomptu stop at Kipa was then made!! Unknown to us the children had brought with them pocket money to shop in a big supermarket, they were very good and it was funny to see the young girls seriously take a shopping trolley to gather 10 tls worth of goods

Back on the coach to Mutlus Restaurant at Koca Calis Beach, the first beach theyed all ever been on, shoes and socks immediately came off and they had their 1st paddle in the sea, some children tried to drink the water and were surprised it was salty!

We supplied paints and googly eyes so that they could all paint a stone and make animal crafts to take home as a souvenir, which they all loved

Finally 1 last blowout of crisps pop and mandarins before they had to board the coach home

Very happy children and FiG will now be looking at doing this more often in the future, its a very new and exciting project

Many Many Thanks to all FiGs Supporters. Volunteers, Customers and anyone who has helped us in anyway to make this possible

Anyway a few Pics And also a Link to the full Album

An excellent way to bring something special to a whole community, I'm sure they went to bed buzzing after that. The blue stone towards the right is without doubt the best one.

Its a little late in the season now as the winter snows will be hitting the mountains But We hope to bring the younger children from the school asap in the spring We learnt so much today as it was our first time

One thing we do know All the kids wanted McDonalds, spending their pennies in Kipa and also the beach

No difference there then from children all over the world

Can I also say a big thank you to Mutlu for the effort he made at the beach for virtually no money to himself, he was a star, also Yetis who supplied the drinks free of charge We had budgeted 4 tl a child but we only paid 50tl total and that was with our cays nescafes etc
