3C's AGM Report
« on: October 02, 2012, 07:46:12 AM »
Please find below an article which will appear in next weeks Land of Lights

A staggering 75,000 TL was raised by Çalış based children’s charity, the 3C’s, during   2012, beating last years record total by 40,000 TL.

This record-breaking total of 75,312.97TL was announced by 3C’s Treasurer Liz Burton at the charity’s Annual General Meeting held on 26 September at the Golden Moon Hotel, Çalış.  She said that the major increase in income was due to the new charity shop which opened in September 2011 which had netted 34,889 TL.  However more money had also been raised at fundraising events and more donations had been received, so even without the shop income, the charity would still have beaten last years total.

In his annual report, outgoing Chairman Peter Clark said “It has been a record-breaking year for the 3C’s both for fundraising and the allocation and disbursement of funds.  This fantastic result could not have been achieved without the terrific commitment and effort of all of the committee and volunteers as well as our loyal supporters, to all whom I give my sincere thanks.  I would also like to thank  Dilek Dinçer  and Kadriye Çaycı from FETAV, Halime Ok,  the Director of Fethiye Belediye Zabita and Mete Ay, Chairman of the Çalış Association, who have all facilitated what our charity does, which  is to help underprivileged and disadvantaged youngsters within the Fethiye area which, as we all know, is a huge administrative area. The other aspect of what we try to do is to give something back to the community which has welcomed us to live in their country and for this we thank the people of Turkey”.

Back in November 2011, the charity changed the way it worked and, instead of raising and banking money throughout the year and then allocating it to fund various projects at year end, they decided to meet the cost of projects as they came along. During 2012 the charity spent over 49,000 TL on various projects and a further 18,900TL has  been committed to complete outstanding projects as well as to fund new projects agreed at the meeting.

The most recent project, agreed at the meeting, was to fund an annual bursary to provide a carer to manage the toiletry and personal care and hygiene needs of the disabled youngsters at Patlangic School Disabled Unit. They also agreed to continue to pay for 10 annual bursaries to allow students to attend university who otherwise would be unable to afford to do so.

Other projects funded during the year or where money has been set aside to complete projects are:

- Bayir School - coats, shoes, books, sobas, stationery, games equipment- 5,000TL
- Cumhuriyet School, - projectors, laptop, stationery, nursery class equipment - 4,000 TL
- Elderik Village School - playground equipment and benches - 5,000 TL
- Ortakoy village school - projector and air conditioning units -  5,000 TL
- Derekoy village school -playground equipment, nursery toys and books - 2,500 TL
- Karsioglu School, Fethiye - Laptop - 1,000 TL
- Girls Rehabilitation Centre, Ciftlik -games, jigsaws, football table - 500 TL
 - Catak Village School -playground equipment plus allocation for cupboards and books - 8,100 TL
- Karacula School -chairs for nursery class - 1,000 TL
- School uniforms 56 sets - 4,270 TL
- 10 annual bursaries for students to university - 9,000 TL
- Gunlukbası Football Club Youth Team - new strip -  1,500 TL
- Bozalan village School - - half the cost of  a new roof plus internal and external painting 10,400 TL.

Bozalan school subsequently became a joint project for both the 3C’s and Çalış Beach Forum, where a further 12,000 TL was raised by CBF members to fund much-needed equipment, as well as for a local businessman who donated and fitted a central heating system in the school.

All of the 3C’s projects are approved by Fethiye Tourism, Promotion, Education, Culture and Environment Foundation (FETAV), which is the foundation that the charity legally works under

In his summing up Peter congratulated all of the charities in the Çalış /Fethiye area “They all do a fantastic job and we all raise lots of money, due to a lot of hard work and effort.  I congratulate them all, as we are all working to the same end”

Congratulations on a fantastic achievement.  Who'd have thought all those years ago when you had your first carnival that this would be the outcome.
Very well done to all involved.
