Tax & Price Rises
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:58:16 AM »

To add to the price rises that will follow the falling lira the Government is introducing special taxes today. I don't know how much these are.

"The government raised special consumption taxes on some cars, alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and mobile phones, according to a decision published in the official gazette yesterday."

From Fethiye Times here is the fags and booze increases:

The sin taxes are all up. The duty on beer is up 15 per cent and the nation’s favourite tipple Raki is up 10 percent.

This is expected to result in an 8 to 15 percent rise on the price paid by the consumer.

A 57 kuruş tax hike on a pack of cigarettes was also introduced.

The total tax collected per carton will range from 3.22 pounds 3.75 TL.

Retail prices for even the cheapest packet of 20 are now expected to reach 6 TL.

It's not right to copy and paste entire articles so for car, fuel etc tax increases here is the FT link: New Year Hikes to Turkish Tax, Duties and Fines

Yes but isn't good to know that our (increased) tax spend goes to such worthy causes as Ministers sons, Shoebox Collections, Quality Roadworks  ;)  Have a nice day Mr E

Don't think 25 TL would buy you much what with all these tax increases.
