The continuing story of "E"
« on: September 25, 2014, 21:45:31 PM »
A few month ago we told the tragic story of little “E”, the 7 year old boy who was born with severe genetic problems. Not only could he not hear or speak but he was born with missing fingers and toes and is unable to walk. Because of his multiple complex problems, it was decided to address each issue one at a time to see if it is possible to provide him with a better quality of life.

On the advice of consultants at Fethiye State hospital, we paid for “E” and his parents to go to Mugla University Hospital so that he could have special hearing tests which are unavailable at the Fethiye Hospital. Following the test results, on the advice of the audiologist,  we purchased a special sonic ear which has enabled “E” to not only hear but to eventually speak. He is now attending the rehabilitation centre at Patlangic for speech therapy.

It is now time to address his mobility problems. The doctors at the hospital said that  “E” should be fitted with special orthopedic boots to help correct the problems with his feet. Although the government provide some financial help for these,  it only covers 50% of the cost so the 3C’s stepped in and paid the rest of the money.

"E" is now having physiotherapy once a week which is the most that the state will pay for.  3C’s member Graham Whitaker (CBF member Ticker ) accompanied  “E” on a recent hospital visit and asked his orthopedic consultant  whether extra sessions of physiotherapy would be of benefit to “E” and whether he would eventually be able to walk. The consultant advised that he would eventually walk but it is going to take a long time, maybe  2 years. We agreed to  pay for an extra physio session a week and will then reassess what we can do to help, based on the results of the physiotherapy  and the  consultants recommendations.

As the 3C’s have committed to helping “E” through his problems, this is an ongoing project so watch out  for the next update.
