Be careful of this British Gas Scam.

I got this message this morning.  I don't have an account with British Gas.  However this phishing mail looks very real, please don't click into the "Restore My Account Now" all they want is your Bank Account details so they can clear it.


Dear Customer:

British Gas account deleted due to T.O.S violation

This message confirms that your British Gas account was deleted due to violation of systems security terms of services that was left unresolved following British Gas yearly system upgrade notification which was sent 02 January,2015.

 "Restore My Account Now"

British Gas accounts can only be restored within a short period of time after deletion.

Note: It may not be possible to retrieve some datas related to already deleted British Gas account.

Thanks for the warning.
We are also been receiving similar mails from Financial institutions. Because the first few were from some we have never had any dealings with, we guessed something was not right.
Names involved were lloyds, Abbbey, Halifax and the like

I got one from "Halifax" which did look very good. Mind you, as long as the fraudsters help us out by writing things like "datas" (in the fake British Gas email) sussing them out is still fairly easy. Except in the case of Tesco which specializes in corporate illiteracy so it could well be genuine.
