Don't anyone speak English any more?
« on: April 14, 2015, 17:01:13 PM »
Chas and Dave correctly noted this over thirty years ago, and unfortunately things have got worse since   ;)

As any of my close friends or regular readers of CBF will tell you, I am not one to moan.  So if there is ever a time when we elect President Tickets, and that is a possibility, then this great Chas and Dave song will be promoted from my own personal theme tune to become my national anthem. : :) : :)

Don't yer just love Chas and Dave!  I even forgave them years ago for their Tottingham Hotspurs affiliation......

I'm just finishing a biography of Albert Lee by Derek Watts and Chas and Dave feature almost from the beginning.
They grew up together along with many other now famous musicians and the stuff they have done over the years
is amazing, working in the US with the giants of music, adored by Dolly Parton, the Everley Brothers,Willy Nelson,
Eric Clapton, they've backed all the greats and done Studio work on hundreds of Albums. I'll be looking for their book next.
Wise choice President Tickets.

You aint wrong!!  Ah the musical links from Chas Hodges.... Joe Meek, Mike Berry, The Outlaws, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, the really fantastic Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, and probably best of all (with Albert Lee) Heads, Hands and Feet, possibly the greatest British group that didn't make it really big, but influenced so many to follow.  So here are two of my favourites from HH&F, you can find lots more on youtube, the sad thing is that their music is hard or expensive to get hold of these days...

This one from (allegedly the first) OGWT

And who is the singer in this, no it is not Johnny Cash or Roger Miller ..... you understand me boy? If you don't understand the words then why are yer singing the song boy?

Yep it's Chas himself.....

Oh yes and if you want proof of the Chas and Dave link to the musical aristocracy see this video from the eighties, Chas, Dave, Albert lee and who is that other bloke with a beard?  Singing one of my all time great songs of the 20th Century, Goodnight Irene, now a standard, but straight from the master Leadbelly, and sung to perfection by the Weavers...and these boys don't make a bad job of it either.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Puj5v-kjA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Puj5v-kjA</a>

And if you check out Youtube again you can find somewhere Chas, Dave and the great Lonnie Donnegan, another person who could belt out Goodnight Irene, and bring a tear to a glass eye.

Chas played Bass guitar with Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent, and Jerry Lee helped him to learn the piano.  Proper music.

Seen Chas n Dave many times, they used to play regularly at our local in Edmonton.  The last time I saw them was at Newmarket race night, they had the whole crowd dancing and singing along.  I agree with you all that they generally under rated as a comedy duo. They are a talent in their own right.
