Title: DeFacto - New Clothes Shop
Post by: nichola on June 19, 2011, 23:43:27 PM
There is a new clothes shop DeFacto just opened opposite the Fish market and just across from ING bank (not opposite Ramazan as previously posted).

I bought 3 super duper cotton summer dresses from there a couple of nights ago for a grand total of 94TL. They also stock mens clothes.

Staff too busy to follow you around the shop.

There are also a number of other new clothes shops for women in Fethiye - just up the road from Quicksilver on the same side of the road is a small "outlet" shop - new boot leg jeans purchased just 20TL but the normal sizes go quickly leaving only small sizes.

Quite a few dresses & tops etc but mostly synthetic so not really suitable for the hot weather.

Staff completely ignore you until you are ready to pay if you do want to buy something so no hassle.

And just up from there where Koton used to be is another new womens clothes shop - looks a bit more up market and is, with a very nice selection and fairly reasonably priced; staff attentive but in a nice way.

Another womens "outlet" shop has also opened up from the Tuesday market on the other side of the road of the canal. Looks quite big and apparently has some "brand" names. Haven't been in yet but the window displays don't look too bad from a distance.

We also found DeFacto.  I got a lovely long dress is a very light floaty material which I was so pleased with, it work out about £13.00.  I also got two tops from my son's fiance which were about £6.00 each. She absolutely loves them.  My husband bought a couple of shirts in the men's department upstairs.  Have to say it was great not being followed around by the staff. Browsing without hassle was the best part of shopping in this place.

No baby clothes Boo, but I did buy some hair slides for my Granddaughter, two on a card for 1TL.

There is a new baby shop in the one way street on the left hand side.  I think the name is Kana.  Lovely baby clothes downstairs and baby equipment upstairs. They had a discount card system which I think you join, however the assistant used her own card for us, it was buy one get one half price.  Not the cheapest baby clothes but lovely quallity and design.

My dress was grey and pink flowers.  We took our neighbours into Fethiye a few days later and after a meal at your place went over to Defacto.  All the same dresses as mine had sold out.  Remember we will be have to keep in touch if we have the same dress, it would never do to turn up at the Restaurant wearing the same thing[:o)] :-\

Nichola, There is also a guy selling really lovely dresses in Calis market at the top of the Market  on the extreme left hand side near the cheese shop. There are short dresses and beautiful long ones which are scarf dresses.  I tried one on in the market over my own clothes they are very light loose and comfortable.  I bought two they were £10.00 each. I have left them for my daughter to use as they are a great pop over for beach wear.

De Facto is a great shop with branches all across Turkey.
The branches in Istanbul are bigger in some areas and carry a lot more stock.
When i was there recently they had started the summer reductions and people were grabbing armfuls.........

Its a fairly common complaint here that attentive staff in the name of good customer service latch onto you the moment you enter and follow you around the shop (which you can have a little fun with if so inclined) so they are on hand the moment you look like you need assistance.

There seems to be a consensus amongst people I know that we Brits generally don't appreciate this  ;) we like to browse without someone a hairs breath away  ;)

Yes I know, I have been shadowed step for step in some Fethiye shops (Ramazan being the worst offender ever). I only get shadowed like that over here when I'm in Victoria Wine, and even then I need to stick a bottle of Smirnoff down my jumper first!

There was a jeans shop in Perth that used to get you as you came in the door and after three "can I help you" from three staff members hubby walked out.
We also had a great store detective in Boots.  For some reason if you wore jeans and looked at the "make you own wine" section, he followed you round the store.  Hours of endless fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will have to visit this shop.  I remember how nice that was in Tunisia, after fielding off shop folk, just to walk into a no hassle shop where they left you alone to browse was bliss.

My husband bought two shirts and got two matching tee shirts free!
Also noticed a man who was getting the legs of trousers pinned up by the assistant, so they obviously do alterations :). (Sorry Nichola hope this will not encourage Dogan to fill up your side of the wardrobe :o)

yes well I am beginning to regret this Heather - I may need to take extreme measures to ensure that there isn't an unfortunate incident when I and another are in the same place at the same time in the same dress  :o

Hope they stock sizes for the more 'cuddly' woman.  Love maxi dresses, but being a rolly-polly often feel I am back in maternity wear !!  I expect Lottie will sniff this shop out from a million paces when we arrive...

The guy who sells the pretty dresses at the Calis market also has a shop in Gunlukbasi called Istanbul Pazari if I've got the name right, about haklf way down the main shops in Gunlukbasi on the left, before Sok. His wife makes the dresses and also crochets some beautiful summer tops. Lovely things there!

I noticed yesterday there's another new shop opening opposite the DeFacto shop and opposite the fish market - a few weeks ago it was a restaurant that did a cheap 3 course lunch, if that helps.  The shop name was up (can't remember what it was) but they were still fitting out the inside.  Can't wait to go check it out when it opens up.  There are some really good clothese shops now in Fethiye, and they're starting to wake up to the fact that not every woman is a stick insect!

As a PS to that, I've also noticed that quite a few shops are starting to sell sandals in bigger sizes too - maybe they'll extend their range to shoes and boots in the winter, then I WOULD be happy!

I would add that whatever the size of the womens clothes, in the past, most of the shops seem to sell clothes that were stuck in te 1980's.  I never saw much I liked.  I always enjoy shopping (which may be a surprise to some people) but in Fethiye I stopped looking in the clothes shops.  It's great to see a new shop with modern wearable and reasonably priced items.  I hope now Defacto have opened it will start a trend for some good women's clothes shops.   I always  thought it was a shame that a big shop like Ramadan had so little items of clothing I liked I gave up on them two years ago.
The only clothes shop I have used is Saman who have some really lovely unique items not found anywhere else, what I like about their trousers and long skirts is they have them in shorter lengths.

We also have LC Wakiki, now in my eyes that's when modern clothes in all sizes at great prices arrived in Fethiye and I could stop having to go back to UK to find good clothes.
Been in DeFacto and it seems very similar in styles and prices but not as much selection IMO.
All shops like this are great news for Fethiye hence why they are always busy...the till tells the story..

I haven't been so impressed with DeFacto this summer as much of their new stock is synthetic and I like cotton which is cool and allows the skin to breathe; important in this hot and sweaty climate.

I have only managed to find 2 new cotton dresses and one top so far.

However I have discovered Afrodite which isn't a new shop (except to me) but I have spent a small fortune in there and they regularly get new stock and numbers of items are limited and not reordered so you are far less likely to see someone else wearing your new dress.

It can be found in the pedestrianized area that you can see facing you by standing with your back to the front entrance to Domino's Pizza. It's on the right about one hundred metres along, just before the back entrance to LC Wakiki.

It is one of those rare shops that has ranges of clothes suitable for most ages too. The staff do speak some English and are very pleasant.

Bought a few things in Afrodit and as you say Nichola their clothes are a bit different and they don't have multiples of everything.  Another shop I like is Rana - a couple of doors away from Afrodit - they sell natural gems amethyst etc but also have a range of clothing made in Turkey.  Nice designs and a lot of natural materials, a bit pricey but nice, again you don't meet loads of people in the same outfit.

No, I did not see anything in Defacto this time.  Think Karma is worth a look as they are a designer Outlet.  Had a few "bargain" buyers in there and their Mango stuff is really cheap.

Last year I bought a pair of nice Mango linen trousers in Karma Jacqui after your recommendation, they are a little bit see through and I did wonder if I would ever wear them but I bought a really nice top in Afrodite (also a little bit see through) that goes with them perfectly.

I haven't tried Rana Marggie but I will have a look. There is a sort of hippy shop along there too. Clothes look nice and colourful but a lot of the dress styles look like like rags on me  :'(
