Belediye information
« on: July 18, 2012, 15:19:13 PM »
I note in the FT that Kalkan belediye has a free SMS text alert service which provides information in english to anyone who subscribes. Presumably this would include all the various messages provided over the tannoy service.
I know there have been various attempts to get essential messages translated and broadcast in Uzumlu, but have no idea if this idea has been tried before. If it has then please ignore and I'll go back to sleep. If it has any potential, who would we approach?

I think that would be a very good idea. It is very frustrating to hear the 'ding dong' and then not know what they are talking about. Like today - no water if I could hear the message I might know how long it is likely to be off. I am trying to learn Turkish but still don't think we would hear it properly as we are out of the village.

This has the makings of a great idea.
