I've got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I want to bring it out to Turkey with me. However I only want to use it connected to the various WiFi networks in the area. I don't want to make or receive mobile calls or texts. Can anyone tell me, in simple terms, what settings I have to change.
Come on Lance, this is a chance in a lifetime ! ;)

Turn the mobile roaming data setting to 'off'
Turn wifi 'on'
If you also want to make sure you get no calls (you are only normally charged for calls if you answer them) then take the SIM out

I think you just go into settings and turn off "3g" to stop it finding the mobile internet.
Not sure you can turn off the mobile calls part?

So, if I take the SIM out, I'll still be able to get WiFi ?
-
Yep....should be able to. But as mine and above post says, if it is just data charges you are worried out then just turn off 3G (mobile roaming data). Then the only possible charge you cold get is if you answer a call.

That's the simple answer I was looking for. Thanks Steve.
I don't really want to make or receive calls on that phone while I'm away.

this is the correct way, I've done this on last few trips.

Another tip: If you leave the sim in make sure you turn your voicemail off as you get charged for someone to leave you a message.

I tend to leave the voicemail switched off anyway. I wouldn't want to receive most of the messages people want to leave me. ;)
