Title: Restaurant advice.
Post by: Ally B on May 04, 2011, 19:01:28 PM
We are comming to Calis last week in May.Staying at the Saros appartments beside the Letoon. We intend to eat out alternate nights. We have been to Calis many times but have never eaten at this end.As I have just had a knee op.we will not be walking too far. Could anyone recomend some good eating places.I have heard of Guvens which we will try but would like to hear of some others. They dont have to be big or fancy small family run places would suit as long as the food is good and the kitchen clean.

Ally - would certainly recommend Guvens. Letoon itself can be ok and there is a small restaurant not far away on the road to Seaside Residences which is run by Bayram and his wife Iris but we cannot remember the name. The Sevi Hotel is not too far but we have never been.

Perhaps some restaurants would be willing to pick up if you had a contact number

I think the name of Byram and his wife's bar is called Daisy Bar, lovely couple, also there is Oben restaurant under the trees, very nice good value for money, and if you like chips they are brill, just pass the Letoon you will find it.Going myself at end of May,now i am getting excited.

Daisy Bar - that's the one :) (Mrs H thought that was the name).

Oben's is good also - very friendly.

Daisy bar is lovely such friendly staff and nice food and also some good set meal deals, their banana and chocolate pancakes with icecream are out of this world , I am thinking tho that it may have changed it's name last year, I am probably wrong  becuase as I approach my fifties I find I am getting a lot of things wrong these days!:D

What about the big place in front(ish) of Saros - was Kum City Beach park a couple of years back - if that's in good hands it would be handy and possibly good too  :)

Have to disagree about Mimosa (formely Kum City Beach) we've eaten there a number of times and have always had great food. I know the guy who runs it (Uzzi) is not everyones cup of tea but he's always run a good restaurant in my experience.

I was also surprised by Turkey Sue's comment. We have had lovely food there and our friends eat there regularly. Good music good atmosphere and a great position. Maybe you were just unlucky.

The food at the letoon hotel is good, we ate their several times last year, the food at Obiens is nice but you heve to go down a few stairs.

Just came back and we loved Mimosa. Letoon did not seem to be quite open yet. Best experience was going to Kaya Koy to Levissi Wine house. I think it was the best meal I have ever had anywhere in my travels. On arrival we went and saw the wine cellar which was very interesting. We were then shown to our table, beautiful. Massive fire burning. The steaks with prawns in a mushroom sauce was to die for. The wine was excellent and service, fantastic. It will be interesting to see if it has the same atmosphere in the summer but we will definately be trying it.

On another note we always enjoy Fridays at the Surf cafe. We have teenagers and they really enjoy it there.

Hi, would that be the same Byram & Iris who ran the bar/restaurant and property services just along from the Tuna Hotel near Seaside Residence? Think it was actually called Iris & the property side of the business had a black horse sign??Does this mean they have moved or has the name just changed? we had lovely lunches there a few times & both lovely people, would like to see them again this year so knowing exactly where they are would be appreciated. We have never eaten at Mimosa even though we stay at Seaside but everyone we have spoken to recommends it and 1 family last year rated it as the best meal they had in their 2 week stay. It was on our list or this Summer so will definitely be giving it a try.

cheerful - I talked to Sol this evening and he maintains that Letoon was open and indeed very busy.

lynn25 - we reckon its about 100 - 200 metres from Seaside.

We passed the Letoon on the day of the Royal wedding and there were a good few folk in there watching it on the telly.
