I can't stand football but well done to him. I'm sure he earns enough anyway and this will be a tax write off but it doesn't matter......any donation is good

Yes, well done, it 's lovely to see a footballer giving his wages to charity,  but perhaps it would have been nice if he had joined a British Club and donated the money to a British Children's Charity.  Apparently he said he did not want to play in the Premier League as M.U. did not want him and he loved them so much he did not want to play against them, (I really don't think he would have got in the Premier League) but he could have joined a lower league which would have boosted the gate and brought publicity to the club, as it seems the wage did not bother him.   However, I  think Paris will suit Victoria for her Fashion Business.

No buts for me Jacqui - just a great gesture.

Lots of people on here, not least your goodself have helped children in a foreign land.

What's the difference.

And from a footballing point of view why on earth would a great footballer like David Beckham want to play in a lower league when it appears he had numerous offers from top clubs.

I have given to children in lots of countries, but France does not spring to mind as somewhere I have  been asked to donate.  If I see a school like the one we support in Turkey, in Paris I might change my mind, or if I see places  like the ones third world countries where I have sponsored children, somewhere in France I would gladly give.    Beckham would not get a place in a Premier League Team, but at 38 he could play for a lower league and donate all the money to Charity in England. There is no shame in that.
The Beckhams will get a place in Paris and also one in London, it's a very quick commute and Victoria has a lot of friends in the fashion industry in Paris.

Beckham would not get a place in a Premier League Team,

I reckon he might get a game for QPR, Aston Villa or Wigan just at the minute.

but at 38 he could play for a lower league

Scholes, Giggs - why not Beckham

Scholes and Giggs have played Premium League Football, which is at the top level, constantly, without a break. Beckham has been out of it for years playing in the States.. which is why M.U. did not want him back.
I am not knocking Beckham for giving money I already complimented him for doing so.  However, the way the French feel about us and in lots of cases, the way the British feel about them I just wish he was giving his money elsewhere...

No buts from me either, in fact I’m quite surprised anyone has any buts. What has he done wrong??

He doesn’t want to play for a team other than Man Utd in the prem, the team that nurtured him, which is honourable and he has donated his salary to a charity.

H is right, what difference does it make if it’s in France, should we all stop supporting the Turkish charities?

What makes people David Beckham bash?

I think Scoles had a short retirement before Fergie brought him back. I remember him having something wrong with his eyes.

David Beckham is not unique in giving to Charity .  A lot of Footballers give their time and money to Charities, however, it's not publicised.  So a pat on the back for Beckham and and another one for the Footballers who do their Charity work privately and quietly... They are all worth praising.

Des, He is a lucky man, he does not need to buy his wife dinners at the prices she is charging for her desgner stuff.  Now, as everyone knows I like handbags.  The latest Victoria Beckham Handbag is called mytherasa.  If anyone is interested it is selling for around £30,000 or $47,150.00.  I have to admit I am gobsmacked at this price.
http://www.mytheresa.com/us_en/sunset-zip-leather-clutch.html?utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=affiliate.cj.us&utm_campaign=produktdaten

I read recently she saw a bag she liked from another designer at a cheap £8,000 and she order 15 of them... Go girl I love your style.

All credit to him - but an interesting point on the BBC website - why didn't he join West Ham and help kids in the area he grew up?

But a fabulous gesture - of course he can more than afford it but you still have to do it.

I'm sure he thought long and hard, and he is torn between two trees. However, he quietly supports very many charities in UK so might feel justified in helping a charity in the country for which team he plays.

David Beckham continues to impress me.

During an interview after tonight's game, he expressed his disappointment that Messi may not take part in the return leg because he likes to see him play.

PS Adrian Chiles mocked the sentiment - muppet >:(

I agree with Highlander and as for Chiles cannot understand where most of his comments come from, is he trying to be funny all the time because if so it isn't working!!
