....but after reading something on another site, I did wonder.....
When you apply for residency (under the current rules) do they keep your documents, such as your passport, while it's being processed?
I'd assumed they just needed to see it and that's what all the photocopies were for, but I saw an article that sounded as though they retain the original.
In which case, that would kind of scupper my plan of sorting out a lease from March and hopping over for a short visit with Mr and Little Miss WB to whack our applications in before the regulations change in April. :(
-
Yes the police do keep your passport while they produce your blue book, from memory when we did ours, it's 7 to 10 days depending on how many they have to process
-
That's why we have to go January, it can take up to 90 days and I have to come back for my new grandgirl due end March.
-
Ours took 2 weeks & they gave us the date to collect them on the day we did all the paperwork!
-
Is it different area to area, say Ovacik or calis or do we all go to the police in Fethiye?
-
It's all done by the harbour police in Fethiye. They will tell you how long it will take.
-
I've never heard of it taking up to 90 days? I believe for Olu, Hissar & Ovacik you will use the Fethiye tax office and passport police. You will have to get a form stamped by your local Muhtar.
-
Local muhtar ? Where is he situated?
Thanks
-
Darn it, think I will have to revise my planning! >:(
Can't believe I didn't realise.
Will be interested to know how long it takes for you in January, Bernie.
March would still be ok if it's only a couple of weeks but 90 days isn't do-able because of our daughter's exams.
And of course if people are trying to rush in under the existing regulations before April, that could hold it all up a bit.
Looks like I could be among the first of the new system guinea-pigs then...... :(
-
Yes will let you know x

Local muhtar ? Where is he situated?
Thanks
He will usually be situated locally !!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to hire the services of Yakub at Hippy Chick (near Mulberry tree restaurant) or Vollkan Sankir (2gether) who's office is in the Lykia Centre, opposite Dentist Cagatay. The cost is really quite low and they will complete all of the formalities in a day.

Thanks Rimms

Koray Atak did ours in early December and it took 14 days, it included a change of address as well.
Happy new year to all.

We are renewing our residencies next week. We are only there for 2 weeks, but volkan at 2gether (who organised ours the last time also) said that in January 7-10 days turn around is normal. The last time we got them back within the week. The cost was/is in our opinion well worth it, especially as we have no time to reapply if a mistake is made.
-
Hmm, may still be an option then.
Just for a laugh I emailed the Turkish Consulate in London to see what they'd say about the new regulations.
Quite specifically said I was aware of the current procedure and wanted information on the changes.
Surprised that I got a reply within a few hours....not surprised that all they sent was a copy-and-paste of the current regulations that are on the Consulate website..... : :)

The Muhtar for Ovacik owns the Gunes Hotel behing Bim, you can contact him via any staff that may be on duty there or failing that ask at the Morning Star pub for his contact details,as I know he drinks in there.
