Title: Tablets
Post by: badger on June 22, 2014, 10:02:47 AM
I am thinking of buying a Samsung 3 tablet 8 inch as Mrs B's IPad has no SIM card facility, and although she is happy to share it would make sense to get one we could use Here and in Turkey.
Any technophobe help appreciated   8)

Why do you need one with a SIM
So you can buy a £10 SIM card from Turkcell and get Wi Fi access at our apartment, when on holiday

The device would get blocked better of with a Turkish  mobile WiFi device.I have one and can connect phone iPad and Computer all at the same time and you can take it anywhere no need to find WiWi when out and about.

There is a recent thread running on the Vinn WiFi, have a look. It will support up to five devices.

Alternatively, buy one of these:

Long-Range WiFi Network Adapter (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfa-AWUS036NH-Wireless-Long-Range-Screw-On/dp/B0041L3FI8/ref=pd_sim_computers_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=05F5WMR00RXMW02K2KRV)

Interesting - I might just. Being Amazon you would have no problem sending it back if it didn't do a job  :)

No good for ipads and phones though

Sorted.  Only downside is that you need a windows based machine to run the hotspot software.

Download Connectify from here (http://www.connectify.me) the lite version is time limited but the pro version is only $12.

Connect the Long-Range WiFi Network Adapter (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfa-AWUS036NH-Wireless-Long-Range-Screw-On/dp/B0041L3FI8/ref=pd_sim_computers_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=05F5WMR00RXMW02K2KRV)

Follow the simple on screen instructions and Robert is now your mothers brother.

Tested on phones, kindles and tablets.

That is just for the Wifi I already had a Sim which is 13 tl for up to 1GB for 1 week. There is also 4GB 1 week (about 30TL) and 4 GB 4 week options.

I used to use Connectify Pro with a dongle but it was a pain in the ar5e having to switch the laptop on and then connect up. I just leave the Wifi on all the time and take a tablet away now instead of a Laptop.

$49 for a week PER DEVICE here in the back ar$e of nowhere in Mexico. Except thanks to Uncle John and Connectify I've paid one $49 (no other wifi so no choice) and currently have 6 devices connected to Scunnernet.

Yes, it definitely works!

Using an Internet session on the Vinn Wifi, enter 192.168.1.1 and you will access the settings (can set to English) user name and password is admin.. Then if you go to sms send a text of "Kalan" to 2222 and within a minute you will get a text which states data remaining and expiry date.

Last year we got a box put on the roof connected to a small gadget in the living room.  It cost £60.00 we pay 35 TL per month, for WIFI connection, but only when we are in are place. So, Ipad. Computer and we can hook up the computer to the T.V. with Film On and watch British T.V.
Fingers crossed we are really pleased with it and we get good WiFI connection.   The company that fitted it just turn off the connection when we go away and put it back on when we are there.  Our neighbours were so impressed, they got it in too.

Hi Jacqui, can you provide more details on the system and who installed?

Thanks Simon

We got it through Volkan when he was at Vojo's   He arranged for us to meet the Electricians at the shop and they followed us in our car back to our Villa.   They fitted a box on the roof and took a wire down the side of the house and then through to the living room where the fitted a smal white box.
After Volkan left, he sent us details of the guys who did the job so we could get in contact with them and get the WIFI switched on again.
We passed the information on to Olga who looks after our Maintenance and she arranged to make the payment for us and get the WIFI back on.   No problem, it was done and we again were pleased with it.
The only problem I see is, the guys do not speak a lot of English, so you would need someone who speaks Turkish to contact them.   I can p.m. you their details if you wish?
