Where is everyone? I have never seen the forum so quiet. Is it something I said?
-
I agree with you Ally B, not like it used to be which is a shame. I still check in every day as this was the first forum I joined after visiting çalış for the first time 7yrs ago. Would love to see it pick up again as it's a great forum.

We went to Bitez near Bodrum after 30 years like stepping back in time enjoyed every minute 😁 looking forward to returning to Calis in September ……. Our friends are currently there and enjoying their stay.
We have missed the banter, information and people we have met through this forum assume Covid is part of the cause. Where’s Scunner defo miss his charm and wit ;D
Looking forward to meeting old friends.
Enjoy your holiday 8) :D

Here here, let's get posting :) :)

I,ve been reading a lot about the Turkish inflation rate and the reports vary greatly.
How are the brit' ex pats living locally finding things, price wise ? I feel sorry for the
locals. I would imagine many are struggling.. Oludeniz Beach seems quiet for mid June.

Hellllllooooo ,We moved here almost a year ago, but i still tune in to this forum every day, it was the first one i joined , it is very sad that there is nothing to read on here most days....so i think i might start posting !!! x

After having two planned Calis holidays cancelled due to Covid restrictions, I felt downhearted and despondent at missing out on the experiences known and loved over the last 12 years.
I suppose that many forum members feel the same and they don't post on the forum because they have "nothing to report" :(
Luckily we managed to spend 9 days at the Remer hotel through Loveholidays in early May this year when most of the restrictions were eased. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this small hotel and were well looked after by all the friendly staff, especially Nevra at Reception who seemed to have a finger in very pie and was so helpful to us. I would recommend this place if you want to spend a quiet period away from the stresses of everyday life in the UK.
The usually vibrant promenade however, was so very quiet both day and evening............I've never known the place so "downbeat." Even though Covid lockdown is now behind us and most of the restrictions have been removed, a lot of would-be tourists will be concerned abut the increased cost of living and probably having second thoughts about going away on holiday. But once you get to Calis the exchange rate against the GBP is very favourable, so that somewhat offsets the travel costs. We didn't notice any major price increases in shops or restaurants.
Ever optimistic, we have booked into the Oykun for a couple of weeks in June next year so fingers, eyes, arms and legs crossed we will get to return to a place we regard as a "second home."
Good luck and best wishes to everyone on the forum and keep posting! :D :D

I think there has been a lot of dispondency during Covid, hopefully we are past that now ;D

We too managed to get to çalış this year since 2019. We decided to go for our first out of season visit in April and thoroughly enjoyed it being cooler in the daytime & evenings.. Because of the weather being not too hot (still shorts weather) we ventured out on lots of walks, ate in a few different places too. One particular place was the disabled cafe on the Sunday market road. We had a lovely lunch there and went a few times for breakfast. Really hope this place does well as it's for a worthy cause. They also had two singers on one afternoon. We definitely plan to do this more often if we are able too as it was a totally different experience to visiting in the height of summer. Nice to be back! :)

My wiife is back in Calis in 4 weeks and me in 7 weeks, can't wait 8)
-
We've been holidaying in Calis every year since 2015 with the exception of last years forced absence, not as long of a streak as some forum members just wish we'd found it sooner. We return in August this year and like many cannot wait to return to our favourite place.
-
Don't forget the sun cream Richard.........the sun is rather hotter than we are used to in Ashton-under-Lyne and Leigh :D :D
You could always find a shady corner in a bar on the prom with a few bottles of Efes :) :) Have one for me and enjoy your holiday.
-
Hi Dennis - sun cream and after sun are already bought and ready to go in the suitcases - usually the Calis sun is hotter than Ashton (and Leigh ;) ) but glorious weather at home today.
My wife works in a school so were stuck to fixed holidays so middle of summer is our time - I need my 2 week fix and Easter time is not warm enough for me :D
Cider is my tipple, or a cocktail, so cheers and I'll have definitely more than one for you - glad you enjoyed your break in May and next June will soon be here

Over the years I've made friends with some of the bar / restaurant workers and keep in touch with them. To continue the trend of trying to boost the number of posts I'm going to start some new topics in the restaurant and bar section of what I've been told about what has been happening at some of the establishments. All word of mouth, until I arrive in August, and apologies some may of already been posted on here or on other sites but hopefully some will find interesting / useful.
-
Richard, your idea to reactivate the forum postings sounds interesting and I'm sure that when forum members become aware of views and comments they will respond in an enthusiastic way, Good luck. ;D
-
I am so jealous that you British are so close to Turkey, unlike myself who lives in Australia on the other side of the world.
Good on you guys.

Welcome to the forum stevegong. If you trawl through posts from the past you'll find helpful, informative comments along with some which are happy, sometimes sad and occasionally downright daft (present company excepted of course :) ) Just like real life. However, in 12 years I cannot recall any major critical comments of Caiis Beach.........once bitten with the place, you are hooked and looking forward to the next visit.
I hope you enjoy your association with the forum. Cheers mate! :) ;D 8)

I have to admit I tend to just look on CBL on Facebook now but this was the first site I joined after visiting Calis. I will make an effort to put any posts on here in future and hopefully we can get it back to what it was. Going to Ovacik in September as got a deal to good to turn down but will be visiting Calis also, need to have my Oben fix, still my favourite restaurant.
-
We managed to get out the beginning of April for a few days and were very suprised just how much was already open, it was the busiest April we had ever known.
Also got over for half term in May and again seemed fairly busy, not as many families with children as I would of thought but a promising start for business owners.

Thank you for your kind welcome Dennis.
You guys seem very friendly and chirpy on here unlike some others.

6 Weeks to go 8) 8)
Does this count as a post or just the ramblings of an old man ;D
-
We're all as daft as each other so we wouldn't know the difference between a post and a ramble : :)
-
good to see a lot of the old members posting again, could be a CBF revival night coming up
-
But how much is Efes. ?? ??? ???
-
You can buy Efes for 25tl in supermarkets, Bars tend to charge anything from 40tl up to 90tl depending on where
-
The most posted question ever. Been travelling to the area regularly since 1987 but my mum has never visited. Bringing her this September for the first time and looking forward to it.

Lots of nice places to eat in Ovacik Suzyq. Karizma is a must for that special meal, Sandinos as already mentioned is excellent and there is a fairly new tapas type restaurant called Cazibe which again is a must visit for us when we come over.
-
Thank you, have just had a look at karizma, we are staying at the celay so it’s very near, will definitely try it.
