I find it interesting how this section has mimicked the BBC programmes that prompted it. Grumpy Old Men was a highly amusing and entertaining programme where men, in a self-deprecating manner, took an ironic look at themselves and contemporary life, raging against nature and modern society, that sometimes caused people to collapse into helpless laugher. The derivative show, Grumpy Old Women, was merely a bunch of old women moaning about things, that hardly anyone wanted to watch, and - I guess - was only shown on TV by some misguided sense of "political correctness" that suggested there should be a gender balance so that pathetic drivel should be given as much respect as witty observation.
It is a considerable regret to me that CBF, under Director General Keith (Scunner) Campbell, has followed the PC route of allowing womenfolk to post in a section for which they clearly have no aptitude nor worthy contribution to make, on the spurious grounds that it would infringe their civil rights to exclude them. Surely if that bastion of PC thinking can have two different, gender-segregated programmes, CBF can carry two topic sections - one for male, humourous and informed, perhaps Swiftian, observations and the other for the gang of moaning women.
