communal charges query
« on: July 20, 2011, 20:48:24 PM »
We had assumed that communal charges would include pool, maintenance, gardening and security, if any.  However, having researched 2 properties and corresponded with several estate agents in Fethiye, we noted that some complexes also charge communally for water and electricity.  Now, given that we want to stay at the one we buy for 8 weeks maximum and maybe 4 weeks for family and friends, all in summer, we've had a deterring thought.  Wouldn't this mean that for people who live at the complexes all year round, who use far more water and use electricity/gas for heating through the winter, we would be paying for their bills more than ours ?  Has anyone any experience of this and is it the norm ?   If so, is a smaller complex better than a large one ?

All opinions welcome.

It may well mean charges for water & electricity for communal areas eg garden & stair lights, pool pump. Other than that their are I believe some complexes where household bills are apportioned according to individual usage. Would be worth checking with the agent

The charges are for the outside lights and water used for the grounds. And it is common for everyone to pay irrespective of how long you stay there charges vary from complex to complex but I think a good average would be about 60 tl a month  the size of the complex doesn't really make much difference

Ah so we may have misinterpreted what they said.  When they stated communal charges for elec/water etc, we assumed they meant for all of what everyone uses at home too.  So it's maybe electric and water ONLY for the grounds then?  Wldn't mind paying that at all.

By size of complex, I had just meant that if you were paying for household bills communally then that could cost a lot of money.  Feeling a lot better for that, thanks very very much.  Will defo check with agents beforehand.  :o)

The communal bills on our site are roughly 10tl / month in the winter & 180 / month in the summer when the pool is open & the pump is running. All our communal water is free as we had an artesian well put in several years ago.

Our communal water and electricity charges are included in our annual maintenance payment. All 20 apartments have their own electricity and water meters.
