Apple ID - password problems
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:25:12 AM »
I hope someone can offer me some advice as there is one thing guranteed to tip me over the edge is IT problems.

We have had an IPOD and associated applie ID to use ITunes for years!
Yesterday after a lot of thought, I've bought an IPAD 2( from a friend). I need an apple id  in order to get full functionality.

I thought I would use our existing ID however for some reason neither of us could remember the password and used the retrieval method to get a new one. Despite several( dozens) of tries we still havent received the email that allows us to change our password. We have done this in the past and its worked so I've no idea why it hasnt on this occasion!

Now I'm wondering if I set up a new ID what happens to the exisiting library of music for the exisiting IPOD. When we sync it, will it still sync to the library from the old Apple ID. Im now not bothered about the impact on the IPAD cos I probably shouldve just set up a new account in any case. Im now worried about the effect on the IPOD. ( its not mine!)

I dont get it and Im at a loss? does anyone know the answer?

I think you will lose your history and the new ID will set up as entirely unrelated to the existing. You can run several devices off one iTunes account (which is great for not having to purchase your favourite apps two or three times) - so it is well worth percevering with to get your original password.

Just a thought....are you using the same email address as the one used at first set up?  Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

Lots of info on line on how to override your password. That's why I dont have a password on my iphone as its so easy to override it
Disclaimer......not that I am advocating that this is the best or only way froward!

When you set up your id they ask for a secondary email address for security. This is where they send the email.
