Uzumlu Belediye is it closing?
« on: October 15, 2012, 15:09:24 PM »
A Turkish friend from the village mentioned that the Uzumlu Belediye is closing, and moving to Fethiye. When is this likely to happen and and where will we go to pay bills, etc.  Also the position of Mayor may cease.

I think Fethiye are taking over a few of the smaller belediye. I know Ciftlik is changing after this year (whenever their year ends). Not sure if the offices are closing though but if they are we too will have further to go to pay our bills.

As far as I can work out it's at the stage of a proposal in parliament.  Provinces with more than 750 000 population would become metropolitan (büyükşehir) provinces - this would include Muğla.  If this happened, there might be lower level reorganisation and Üzümlü might lose its belediye status and be administered direct from Fethiye.  Unrelated, there was talk a year or two ago about Üzümlü losing its belediye status because its population was too low.  Anyway, I don't think anyone's going to be travelling to Muğla to pay their water bills any time soon.

All correct. It all happens after the local elections at the end of March and hopefully it will mean many improvements for Uzumlu and less illegal builds. ;D
I would presume bills will be paid in Fethiye but not too sure about that.
This has been known about for over a year now.

and at the meeting with the Mayor last week, he confirmed that if he gets re-elected, the cost of your water will fall to the same as we pay in Fethiye.

Another advantage could be if we are part of Fethiye , council charges can be paid online

Water can paid via Internet banking, but not as yet the council tax.

Would this have implications for the Uzumlu Mushroom Festival and who would organise it.  Any idea if it is going ahead this year
