This May Be A Really Stupid Question.....
« on: December 30, 2013, 15:58:54 PM »
....but after reading something on another site, I did wonder.....

When you apply for residency (under the current rules) do they keep your documents, such as your passport, while it's being processed?

I'd assumed they just needed to see it and that's what all the photocopies were for, but I saw an article that sounded as though they retain the original.

In which case, that would kind of scupper my plan of sorting out a lease from March and hopping over for a short visit with Mr and Little Miss WB to whack our applications in before the regulations change in April.  :(

Yes the police do keep your passport while they produce your blue book, from memory when we did ours, it's 7 to 10 days depending on how many they have to process

That's why we have to go January, it can take up to 90 days and I have to come back for my new grandgirl due end March.

It's all done by the harbour police in Fethiye. They will tell you how long it will take.

I've never heard of it taking up to 90 days? I believe for Olu, Hissar & Ovacik you will use the Fethiye tax office and passport police. You will have to get a form stamped by your local Muhtar.

Darn it, think I will have to revise my planning!  >:(
Can't believe I didn't realise.

Will be interested to know how long it takes for you in January, Bernie.
March would still be ok if it's only a couple of weeks but 90 days isn't do-able because of our daughter's exams.
And of course if people are trying to rush in under the existing regulations before April, that could hold it all up a bit.

Looks like I could be among the first of the new system guinea-pigs then......  :(
