I apologise if this topic has been covered before in CBF but have searched and could not find anything.
On the Turkish Embassy website under Section 11.4 it states that if on retirement pension in England and have Residency in Turkey you are now allowed to bring your British car into Turkey at no cost.
Is there anyone out there who has actually done this? [?] Sorry I now realise I have posted this in wrong section and don't know how to change it - apologies!
Thanks for any info!

The no cost bit is a laugh! It's extremely expensive and very bureaucratic.
-
Also its worth bearing in mind that the car you take to Turkey will probably be right hand drive and they drive on the right. Bad enough driving a left hand drive out there without adding to the problems:D.
I did consider taking my beloved Jag, but it was this issue that changed my mind.

Has anyone actually done it through the Embassy this end? Was thinking of bringing over a left hand drive car!
It does say quote "If you are a retired person and have a resident permit, you are allowed to bring your car into Turkey and keep it as long as you live in Turkey" as long as you "Give a guarantee, either a form of a letter from your bank or cash ensuring that all customs duties will be paid if the car is not taken out of Turkey once you leave Turkey."

I think you have to purchase a bond.
Where is Starman? He will know I am sure.
Good luck

That's correct tel. According to the engine size and value of the car. It's also non-interest bearing surety.
The Touring & Automobile Club Turkey gives more details under section III - Retired Foreigners.
See Here - sample forms are also available for download.

Thanks a lot for info !

Dont bother with the embassy for anything. Their info is out of date and they are just money grabbers.
The deposit is worked out according to age and engine size. Value has nothing to do with it.
Unless the bike is really expensive it is just not worth the hassle considering the paperwork and expenses you have to pay which will run into 1,000's

Bike????? ;)
