Is it too late to get rid of old lira money :)??
-
we've got a bit too???
-
For coins , unfortunatelly you can keep them only as a memory but for notes , you can change them in Turkish Central Bank or in Ziraat Bank in the areas where Central Bank dont have a branch . There is no branch of central bank in Fethiye . So you can go to Ziraat Bank.

There's talk of them changing the notes again on 1st January 2009. The new ones won't have the word "Yeni (New)" on them. So the currency will revert to Turkish Lira again.
-
o for gods sake!!!!!!
-
Can I exchange the new ones for the newer ones when that happens?
-
Only if you have the old new ones.
It's no good if you have new old ones.
-
YTL is now discontinued but the notes will just drop the word YENi, thats all.
The habit of talking prices in millions is still very much alive though.

Ebay might be the place to sell.
We left tips last time we went to US of a Million Lira - they were VERY impressed. PMSL Even when we told them how little is was worth the people we gave them too were delighted with their tips & showing everyone.
Will have to see if we have any left for the next trip.
If someone hasn't seen a Million note - it IS a real talking point.
-
think I will just commit them to memory - thanks for this :))

I kept a nice crisp 20000000 Lira note just for nostalgia....it was nice to remember how rich we thought we were with handful of these! 8)

I got a nice crisp 50 kurus note along with every denomination the Turkish republic has ever printed apart from the 100 lira note which I spent today on a meal.

Sadly I just got a purse full of old dusty coins...:(((((((((((
