Title: Surf Cafe
Post by: bells on August 28, 2011, 19:19:30 PM
Not sure what was going on in Surf Cafe last week.  I have just come back from 2 weeks in calis and went to the surf cafe on 2 occasions and on both times found some of the staff unfriendly and could not care less whether they served you or not.  I was most dissappointed as this is not usually the case. We ordered drinks and food sitting at the tables, first they forgot to order the drinks and after waiting for ages for the food, found out that they had forgotten to order the food as well.  They could not say it was because they were busy because by then we were the only ones sitting at the tables.

Sounds like they need some lessons in looking after customers. Only been a few times and can concur service was pedestrian to say the least.

In the many years I've been going to Calis I've been to the Surf Cafe on only three occasions....

1) We went in - were totally ignored. Sat down & were totally ignored. Left 10 mins later.
2) Couple of years later thought we'd try it again. Service slightly better & I ordered tomato soup. When it arrived it looked like a bowl of greasy water so I sent it straight back.
3) Last year, gave it one last try. Service not too bad, food awful.

I think I'll give it a miss from now on!

Remember folks there are two cafe's/restaurants at Surf Beach..one with the bar, which we have found rude and surely, and the other next door, which serves no alcohol, who are always welcoming and friendly. Just look at what colour sun lounger cushions you are sat on.
Blue ones belong to the bar side of the business and the green and yellow ones, to the family side which we have used 3 times a week for the last 2 months and they are fantasic.
Please distinguish which side you are talking about so that the other side don't suffer.

They both belong to the same family Fi, they're cousins.

On a recent trip I used the place twice, The first time they tried to get me to pay for an extra beer, I put them straight on that, gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back a second time and decided to eat lunch there, as previously posted service extremely slow and food decidedly ordinary and again they added a couple of lira to the tab, I know it's only a couple of lira, but it's a principal issue !.

As stated by others these problems seem to be happening since it's become more popular, on our next visit I think we'll try the one a bit further up the beach as that seems to be getting some good reports, it's quite sad as I really liked it at the Surf Cafe.:(

What a shame you have had bad experiences at the surf cafe. I actually found the food a lot better this year since chef Bayraam arrived. Used to work at Daisy's and Guvens. I am sure Harun would appreciate any feedback good or bad. He is the boss who does the kite surfing.

The alcohol serving one that issues you with a numbered card for ordering food/drink was OK in June. No complaint about service and the food was very good. Will check it in 10 days time.

Same thing happened to us in July waited 2 hours for 3 jacket potatoes 2 came up and they had forgot the other one very poor service there. Complained to Rabbit behind the bar thinking a bit of discount might be given but nothing at the end. Shame its a nice place but i guess they take u for granted in the end. Time to look for another beach bar onethinks

They are the same family but it is different members of the family running each side. One side polite and very friendly one side not so, hence why IMO they shouldn't be tarred with the same brush.

We also visited the surf cafe during august, and unlike some of the other members here, we had fantastic service.  The fresh lemonade was very tasty and the food was lovely and didnt take long to arrive at all.  My husband was having sailing lessons from Yannah (not sure how to spell) while we were being looked after by his BIG brother.  We will definitely return.

We spent quite a bit of time there this season, and whilst I can say the service is certainly more "laid back" than most places I wouldn't regard it as bad at all.

It is more the kind of place to spend some time rather than a quick lunch and I would definitely recommend the Friday night BBQ - the fire dancers were fantastic.

Went to Surf Cafe a few times in September. It is very "laid back" in style, but that's what makes it just perfect for "chilling out".

The food was excellent - in particular the pide was the best we had in Calis this year. I loved the vegetarian with the egg on top!   8)  8)

We were there a couple of days ago as well. No problem at all with the service. During the summer we found it a lot busier than in previous years but at the moment (no surprise) quiet and very chilled. I dont think the service has ever been 'brilliant' but not had a bad experience either.

The Surf Cafe was always a favourite spot of ours but on our last visit in mid June we found the staff to have no interest in serving customers and when we tried to order a selection of Mezes less than half on the menu were available. When our selection was served we had to ask for plates, cutlery and bread.Something seriously wrong there.

The cycle of Turkish restaurants

Open - try really hard - people come - people tell others to come - packed out - we made it - stop trying - people stop coming - people start telling others not to go - empty - close.

Could also be that they don't have to try too hard this season, they made a packet feeding the cast of 1000s every day through the 007 shooting

Not been that many times but I have to agree with the service. It was pedestrian - to put it kindly.

We called in there last week, ordered 2 beers and sat down and waited, after about 5 minutes I called the waiter to ask about my order, he told me that they didn't sell beer and I had sat in the vitamin bar ?? I moved to the next table along and apparently I was now outside the vitamin zone and able to order.

Strange place.
