Are iphones for sale in Turkey? Is it possible to bring a British mobile phone to Turkey and register it? If it is possible is there a time limit for doing this?

Yes, Turkcell have iphone deals and yes you can bring a British mobile phone to Turkey and register it. UK iphones will generally be locked to the network that supplied it if bought on a contract. You can of course unlock it but it makes updating a bit of an art form. You can buy new iphones officially unlocked in the UK so they can accept any sim, but that is an expensive option.

There is a limit for getting UK phones registered in Turkey but I can't remember how long it is.

one phone for every 2 years is the limit. That was the ruling last week when we tried to do it for someone else.

I would not take anything serious to what a Turkish consulate website in the UK says.
The ruling is 2 years. We know this as we have many people who help try to register their phones when they arrive to Turkey and the central telecommunications authority in Ankara states that it is 1 phone every 2 (calendar) years.

You can read the law here http://www.tk.gov.tr/Tuketici/Sorulanlar/Sorulanlar.htm#Yurtd%C4%B1%C5%9F%C4%B1ndan%20yapt%C4%B1%C4%9F%C4%B1m%20aramalar%C4%B1n%20%C3%BCcretini%20nas%C4%B1l%20kontrol%20edebilirim

Do you know how long you have before you need to register your foreign phone in Turkey? Some people come over for a month or longer - now I assume holidaymakers don't have to but how long would you need to be there before it becomes necessary?

One part of the ruling states "yolcunun yurda giris yaptigi tarihten itibaren en geç 1 ay içerisinde cep telefonunun kayit altina alinmasi zorunlulugu getirilmistir." That means that the registration must be done within one month of entering Turkey. Usually if you dont register and you pop in a Turkish sim card then it would work for anything between 10 days to 3 weeks before they block it. Of course if you stick a foreign sim card back into the phone then it would unblock.
