Another amazing transformation last week was the Wales v Ireland game. Wales gave away a hatful of penalties in the first half until the referee was exasperated, sent one person off, and made it very clear he would send off as many as committed fouls if this carried on. In the second half the Irish launched the greatest sustained attack only yards from the Welsh line that went through 34 rebutted phases - and not a single penalty conceded by Wales. In the end it was the Irish who were penalized.
Why isn't that sort a discipline standard for each match? The opposition would only need kickers for conversions and the occasional drop goal.
