Not all prima donnas but certainly some of them.
However, when a club pays 50 to 100 million pounds for a player who earns millions each year can they really risk injury playing in a national side?
Just because they are "qualified" (in terms of both birthright and ability) to play for a national team does not mean they have any national pride.
Certainly, the club managers (in the premier league there are few if any Englishmen involved) have no interest in seeing their prize players risking injury.
When chosen to play for "their" country it is a sign that they are good enough to play at that level - no national pride required.
Anyone producing a half - hearted performance on a rugby pitch would soon be feeling genuine injury rather than rolling half the length of the pitch with the equivalent of a paper cut.
Money, in short, has changed the game.
I used to enjoy going to matches played at the highest level (at afordable prices) - now, I wouldn't go to one if I could get in free.
