Could anyone tell me about Panga fish that I saw for sale today as I don't know anything about it and it seemed very inexpensive to buy. What is the taste like and where is it fished.Thank you.

I'd never heard of it, so googled.
Not very good reading either

Don't think I'd bother :o

We've tried it twice and found it to be quite bland and mushy even if only cooked for a minute or 2. We weren't crazy for it and now stick to mezgit if we fancy a bit of fish and chips.

A vile textured and totally bland fresh water fish usually farmed in Vietnam. Looks good on the fishmongers slab but avoid at all costs. It's no substitute for haddock, in fact the only thing it would substitute for is probably wallpaper paste. "Enjoy your meal"

We were told by the fish guy in Kipa its usually cooked in milk and fed to children and invalids, enough said!

Had fish and chips at a Premier Inn restaurant in South Wales a year or so ago ,and the fish was awful, asked the waitress what it was ,but she didn't know, so the manager was asked ,and it was pangasius ! After googling to find out what it was I'll not be having it again (knowingly!), it was sold as just fish and chips ,no type of fish mentioned.

Thank you everyone.Local stray cats fed well. Will not be eating it ourselves.( ps Cats still alive the next day )

And I think that is where we are nowadays Stan - if it doesn't say cod or haddock etc, I'll not be ordering it. No more "Undefined Fish & Chips" for me
