what to do in Uzumlu for a whole week.
« on: May 15, 2013, 16:02:05 PM »
In a weak moment, we booked a whole week in an Uzumlu villa towards the end of July. Whilst its a beautiful place, we are not sure what there is to do there apart from chilling out. Any suggestions would be welcome.

itinary so far (We will be transferring from 2 weeks in calis, so don't plan any return trips there)

Trip to the barbers
Walk around the village
Walk the other way round the village
Take a trip on the Dolmus to its terminus
Come back
People watch(We once sat outside the wine house for about two hours and saw only 4 people pass by)
Trek to the old ruins
At least two early morning walks
Visit the craft shop
See if I can get Sue trained in using a loom
Eat cake
And just generally chill out

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hugh (Sue is bringing her needle felting stuff so that will keep her happy for a bit)

There may be some grass growing that needs to be watched but at that time of the year it is unlikely that there will be any paint that needs to be observed whilst it is drying.

If I see grass growing, I get an incredible urge to get the lawnmower out for Sue.
Don't think I have ever watched paint dry, as I tend to nod off whilst watching Sue paint. its very relaxing

:)As a devotee of Uzumlu, I can tell you that there is loads to do. We have a wide selection of restaurants, some offering a variety of events from quizzes, a weekly one at the Winehouse called the fun quiz on Tuesdays, another one monthly I think (details of which can be read in the Uzumlu village news, which highlights some but not all events in the village). Live music again at the Winehouse with talented musicians. A secret garden restaurant called Selale (Turkish for waterfall) which serves the most delicious Elma Pide which is close to Apple strudel, this has a real Turkish feel to it, and the owners make you feel like part of their family. There are book exchanges at all the restaurants. It is possible to eat out every night at a different venue, and a lovely cake shop for afternoon tea too. There are craft classes making jewelry, a knitting group, a charity group, a weekly market, loads of walks you can do up to Cadianda the ruins above the village. Horseriding can be arranged, Many charity events organised at various locations. You are sure to be inundated with other suggestions, these are just some to wet your appetite.  People watching is a bit busier these days, but I guess in the heat of the day most people are inside or by their pools keeping cool during the day.Happy holiday

We've not been to Uzumlu yet but are planning a trip up next month on market day.
How does the market compare in size to Ciflik??
We are considering getting the Dolmus there and walking back. Is this feasible??
