Good evening all i have just recieved an email from calis beach forum threatening to remove me from this site ,accusing me of trawling members and spaming them to use the exact words, both of which are completly alien to me as i am not a computor boffin, i am just an average working class person who after visiting calis beach forum and thinking" you know what all these nice people must have the same idea as me",decided to buy in calis, obviously i have done somthing so terrlbly wrong , the only thing i can think of is that i emailed another member to ask them about a topic that they had previously started, so shoot me , but it was a genuine mistake... having genuine second toughts. Bee

Bee
It wasn`t a threatening email, neither was it directed at you personally. it was a mass email sent by Scunner to all members.
As there has been a lot of spamming lately this was the easiest way to let members know what will happen if they spam other members.
Crabbit
PS, I got 9 of them.
-
Please tell me what is a spam
-
I got one ;)
-
All i can say is that! what ever a spam is "not guilty" and the email was over the top. Bee
-
Hi Bee
Spamming is when someone sends unwanted emails to other members touting for business or some such thing.
We've all received the same email from Keith over the past couple of days. You've nothing to worry about so don't fret :)
Anne

its not a bad carp bate,,put it on a size twelve hook, about the size of a matchbox.put a piece of grass between the hook and the spam.that will stop it coming off.
hope this helps

spam spam spam spam aspam spam spam spam sapm spam spam... The term 'spam' originated in the IT industry from the Monty Python films "I want SPAM egg end chips" "SPAM egg and ham" "Chips beans and SPAM" .. It's the continuous noise of something you haven't asked for.. i.e uncsoliciated mail..It's a bit like a Crabbit post ;) Although as a fellow Gooner you are of course forgiven (not that you need to be Dave as you and Keith are God(s) on CBF!
-
Bee, its nothing to worry about, everyone including me has received one because of the problems spammers have been causing, as you don't know what a spammer is you obviously aren't one so forget it. It would have taken too long to individualise the emails.
-
I got one too and I am really cross. [:(!]I have been a CB member for years and both received and given advice to others. I found the whole tone of the email offensive and well over the top. I know of no reason why this type of "warning" should be sent out "en masse" :(and feel that it was a gross mistake to send it to us all and we all deserve an apology.

Hi, Please note that the email facility on the CBF is for members to make contact with each other to discuss things. It is NOT for people to trawl through and spam members in their hundreds. All such activity will result in the member responsible being locked out of the CBF permanently. Thank you :-) Scunner
What is so offensive?
Hi, dont use the forum as an advertising medium or you will be banned, Thank you, Keith
-
what was SO!offensive, well the email did not say if you are spamming then you will be removed from the forum, it,assumed that i was.I thought that this forum was for infomation and disscussion , not for intimadation, and gistaapo tactics," don't need it". Bee
-
I must admit I too found it a little 'off' infact I'd emailed Keith asking ??? before I realised we'd all got it.
I don't think his intention would've been to upset amyone just getting the message across although on this occassion I do feel he could've chosen his words a little more carefully, then again, I bet who ever is doing the spamming got the message loud and clear.

I must admit I emailed Keith to, thought that I had done something wrong, If we all replied his inbox will be pretty full tomorrow!
-
I dont think it was offensive just a general to whom it may concern message.
No spam no problem.
-
I got mine yesterday, i didn't think it was offensive, but then i'd only read the unsolicited e-mail thread the day before so i guessed what it was about straight away, lets face it in the heat of the moment we all say or do things that don't sound quite right to everyone. Alan
-
The email from Scunner was simply to remind all members that the email facility is NOT for spamming or advetising their business. It was not directed at anyone in particular but served as a reminder (especially to new members) that this type of mass emailing will not be tolerated.
No one should be worried by the email - other than those (very few) who decide that they can use this forum to promote their business through unsolicited emails.
Emailing members direct is not a problem as long as it is done in the correct way and is not a spamming excersise.
I hope this explains it clearly.

Sensitive lot aren't you ;)
It was directed at certain members (remember, I don't always know who they are, those with one brain cell don't include the forum administrator in their spamming list.
If you really found that offensive, you should see some of the emails I get lol

I thought when I recieved the email is what a great idea it was to spam - maybe I can drum up some business............
anyway did what normally do with Scunners emails - ignored it!

whats offensive there then?i suppose bee has got a point if you thought you were the only one who got it,you might get the hump?
but she was'nt so job done.
jeez who would want to be a forum owner or a mod?
-
Dippey!
-
bee, calm down love. Obviously there have been members who have been spamming others on the forum. It wasn't worded as a personal assault. I got one, as did everyone else. However, it is no bad thing to come down hard on the spammers to nip it in the bud. I took no offence and I know none was meant.
-
54 emails saying 'was this directed at me'
1 saying 'Delete me from your website I can't remember the last time we looked at it'
2 saying 'I have never visited your website' (Hard to prove really, you signed up)
1 saying 'We are looking to buy a villa in Calis'
Mixed response :)
Scunner
-
If I have to send another I will start it with THIS MAY NOT BE ABOUT YOU
-
who me?i find that offensive!!!
-
Three exclamation marks?
How rude
Scunner
-
As telepathy does not work just how is one to know this was a general "warning" not just one directed at the individual? Surely the place for such as this should be on the general "announcement" section of the CB site????
-
Like spammers come back to the forum to read general announcements...
I take your point in one way, and I have said that maybe next time I should make it clear that it is a general email.
On your other point, there was nothing rude within the email, and it was certainly not as rude as the reply you sent me.
Scunner
-
I got it, knew it wasn't directed at me personally as I have never 'spammed' in my life, read it, deleted it, forgot it.
-
WHY am I always left out? i never got an email !
:( **SULK**

For gods sake, what`s all the fuss about, anybody would think Scunner had killed somebody.

dippey.
perhaps it should got to a forum poll?

Never ceases to amaze me we all have access to computers for the forum, we all make comments, we all send and receive emails and we all know what to do with the ones we dont want, and still some people take it personally.
Today on that basis I would have been upset 250 times because my office e mail received [as it usually does over 250 spam, even with a spam filter, if ever I wanted a loan,a partner or viagra I wouldn't have far to look!!!
Well done Scunner dont let the B.....s get you down !!
-
can i just ask while we are on about spam and stuff, whats the point in someone sending a virus?
i presume its something to do with good old money!!
-
call me what ever, but i still don,t get it , did everybody on cbf get this email then! if not what did i do? was it" email another member".Bee
-
bee, take no notice it was sent to all of us.its easy on here to get crossed wires.
keep on smiling and thinking about your place in calis.

I got one and didn't think it was aimed at me personally - wouldn't know how to spam everyone even if I wanted to.

Sometimes I wonder if some members understand the amount of work that goes into 'policing' a forum like this. Not only do we get new members sending out mass e-mails to others (spamming) but we also get those who just come on to cause trouble (sad I know). Once banned we then find that they come back under another name - so the whole process starts again.
So - for the last time - nobody was accused of anything in the email that Scunner sent.

I honestly think this topic and the other similar thread have now been exahusted. I intend to lock them both by the end of today so if anyone wants to add their final thoughts please do it before then.

Why lock it ?
There are another 2,000 + members who have got to have their say yet.

Ok, Dave. I'll leave this one open and lock the other. It's pointless having two threads going that are so similar.

Erm
Er
Unwanted by some, unsolicited only to people who can't even remember becoming a member here.
For the record, the 2 days since the email was sent have been two of the busiest in the history of CBF :)
Scunner

I agree - I've had numerous emails from members asking me to explain the spam that Scunner sent out (lol).
It just shows that the saying is true:
"there's no such thing as iffy bad publicity"
Hopefully everyone who was upset by the email has calmed down - now that they understand the reason it was sent out.
It seems to have rid us of Webby as well!
Stoop
-
It wasn't bad publicity! It was a general email from a forum that all recipients signed up to, basically saying that idiots will not be tolerated. If members want to be spammed and the site to go to pieces that can be done easier ;)
Anyway, lots of people who haven't thought to come here for a while emailed to say hello and came back for a read.
Good publicity :)

Is this forum becoming a maze? I am new to this but amazed that when I clicked on a link that got me here I cannot actually find where I am.? Forget about that though. To get to my post I am asking. Why does this particular forum feel the need to send every single member an email telling them that they will get banned from the Calis forum site if they send another email to another member advertising their services.Surely surely every member on this site gets emails like that everyday dont they and if they dont like it they will delete or block it.From what I understand from the start of this thread no more than 5 members has got an email from this person advertising his services. So why the huge reaction to this???.Would not a new post on this forum reminding members of the rules as far as spaming is concerned got the message to everyone.Being a new member I must say it amuses me of the over reaction to a simple email that was not as it seems offensive at all.I have just found this under the heading Problems using the board.??? Is this a cover up to the original topic??.
Casey.
-
Casey,
Far more than 5 people got the original message. I got it and there were hundreds of names on it listed as 'sent to'.
The reason everyone got a reminder from Scunner was because not everyone reads the rules before they join. It was not an abusive reminder, nor was it accusing anyone of sending spam.
