We went to the opening night bbq party at Sands beach.
Ibo (ex Zakkum) is a partner there now and has many things planned for the season.
Last night we had unlimited cold meze starters, all the usual favourites, fresh and delicious then there was a bbq of kebabs, chicken wings and kofte, excellent.
Tom Moss was serenading us, our table was right by the beach and the whole atmosphere was lovely.
It was avery reasonable 20 TL per head.
We wish them a lot of a luck with the business and will definately be visiting again.

Good luck to Max and your partner. Sands is a lovely spot and even though Max had a few 'staff problems' last year (which did lead to some poor reviews from disgruntled people)I'm sure he will get it right this season.
We always recommend people try Sands as it's a 'free beach and bed' if you purchase a drink or a bite to eat.

I understand the beers were 7tl!!!! When queried was reduced to 5tl !!!

and ebru was there,she is very well known turkish singer and fire show and all lighting rigs,sound systems. it was as big as the calis carnival. i wish ibo and menderes all the luck in the world,oh and the drinks were only different prices because of all the entertainment.

Day prices for the efes are 4TL.

So does that mean you pay extra (7tl) at night for a beer?.

The prices of the drinks we were told were to pay for the entertainment. We were charged 7TL for beers and 5TL for soft drinks. They were only just lighting the barbecue when we arrived at 8pm (the official start time) and were told the singer would be starting at midnight. We decided to go elsewhere. For me, I thought they were being short-sighted with regard to the drink pricing. This was the first time I had been to the place. They didn't make a good impression on me unfortunately...

Not sure I want to pay for some of the entertainment I have heard in Calis.
At 3ytl extra a beer it could mean I am paying £7-£10 for entertainment. I suppose it depends what you are prepared to pay for really.

Entertainment mean had a 3 singer Ebru she is very famouse in turkey even she is one number one tv free entry normaly all other restaurants asking for normal bbq 25 tl was on our place 20 tl no entery free just for that night 7 tl if you go paspatur most place is normal price 7 tl beer 4 tl in our place also 5 or 6 table gone diffucult to understend for that night only forenest complain about price also quackers was full no empty chairs dont worrie mate 3 tl beer in calis beach stoop must be joke man :D

Hi Max - if it was for one night only and for special entertainment I can understand - people can pay or not go it's up to them. I have no problem with that. I might have even gone myself ;)
As for 3ytl for beer - I meant 3ytl on top of the normal 4ytl price. 6 - 8 beers = 18ytl - 24ytl extra :)

How can entertainment START at midnight when thats the time they have to start quietening down?
C&T its passed the Surf Cafe,Koca Calis and follow the road/track around and you'll find it next to Mutlus before the Birlik.

For all of you who know Fuat the fire eater and lovely guy who works at Sands Beach. He collapsed after his fire show on Friday night after swallowing a small amount of the Kerosene. he was in hospital for 2 days and then discharged himself. We saw the state of him on Tuesday and advised max that he had to take him straight back!! he was very ill indeed. He has had an operation this week and could be in hospital for a good few days. We wish him a good recovery. Think the fire eating will be at and end for a long time.

Saw Fuat a few weeks ago "in action" again. He is a brilliant performer.I'm sure anyone who has seen him will be so sorry to learn about this. His performance is quite heart stopping and he is a lovely hard working young man. I add my good wishes and hopes for a full recovery for him.

Last time I spoke with him he had just fell off a scooter, he had hit a speed bump with one hand on the handlebars and smoking a cigarette with the other.

Yes he has had a bad few weeks. His leg was a real mess after the accident which he told us was after drinking in Olu Deniz. He said his fire eating days were over. Whether Max will see it like that remains to be seen. Still in hospital up today Sunday. x

Anybody seen Fuat lately or heard how he is? We havent been for a week or two.

hes ok now and cheeky as ever, he also became an uncle again last week, baris is a dad and i think on the same day as mustafas from scarletts wife gave birth

fuat going back to our village bcoz need a break for hes helth mum will look after better then me maybe no more tourism for him

We are very sorry to hear that. He is such a nice bloke. Very funny and always smiling. Even a grown man needs his mum to look after him once in a while and he did look really ill last time we saw him. I really hope he comes back next year. He is going to be missed. Lots love. Fuat hasnt gone anywhere. Saw him today and he looks really well and back to his old smiling self. He wont be fire eating this season but he says maybe next year. xx
