Title: Babadag cable car ?
Post by: Kevin Sowten on October 10, 2012, 09:57:16 AM
I read an article some time ago in 'Land of Lights' about a proposal to build a cable car to the top of Babadag.
Am I likely to see it in my lifetime ?    ;)

Reminds me of the Seki ski resort/ski lifts - whatever happened there - did it happen? I'd forgotten about it really.

One of our neighbours works for the consultant company that did the design work - latest from him is that all the ''planning permission'' has been granted - but now they need sponsors to fund the build. Anyone fancy investing - I don't think I will......

Can you remember when the wise voices were saying that the Gocek Tunnel was just a pipe dream and would never be constructed?

Everything is possible in Turkey Kevin. If the cable Car is not up and running then drive to the top or even take the Dolmus 10 t. Just make sure when you do go it is a very clear day to take advantage of the spectacular views. The drive is a great experience and not too difficult.  :)  8)

The main Dolmus stop in Hisaronu near the top barrier, or Oludeniz.

Where does the Babadag dolmus depart from ?

I did the Dolmus trip to the top a couple of weeks ago.
The bus was practically empty for both legs of the journey and I wonder how it would cope if it did ever get full - it was first gear all the way up and most of the way down.
The views from the top are stunning. You get a great view of Calis bay, Oludeniz and Kaya Valley and you are compensated for the white knuckle ride up the mountain ( not a crash barrier in site !)
The dolmus that takes you up goes back down after about ten minutes and the next one up arrives about two hours later.
There is a small cafe serving snacks ,drinks and Efes ( 6 TL) and it's a great place to sit, admire the view and watch the loonies jumping off the mountain.
The driver did say that the last scheduled Dolmus up the mountain did not often run. In which case one of the para gliding companies would take you back in their minibus.
All in all a great way to spend a day, but good weather is essential - it may not be much fun looking at the inside of a cloud.
If the cable car did ever get built the place would be a VERY big attraction - go now before it gets overrun.

I hope it gets built soon as I did the trip on the dolmus and to say a bit nerve racking. The trip back at night was even worse. One day something will go wrong .I just hope if its built it does not cost 45Euros per person like the one outside Antalya. :o

From Fethiye - just before you get to the Olu D roundabout in Hisaronu (about 200 meters back) turn left and simply keep going.

on map link its the road that runs diagonally across the map from the Ramos

Was up there a couple of weeks back - for me no problem, have driven on worse roads, but for the screaming hysterical passenger in the back seat it was not so good.

There are a couple of places that are near a shear drop, but most bits the trees would eventually stop you.
The top third of the road is lock blocked, very smooth but iMO more dangerous than the rough track as it is narrower and a bit too smooth, and beware of the large 4X4s coming in the opposite direction, familiarity with the road certainly breeds contempt with them, the only one I met that showed any common sense was the dolmuş driver, and that really confused me........

Me and my son went up on a paragliding trip ,a couple of years ago, I don't know which I was more nervous about, jumping off,or the thought of going back down in a worn out 4x4 , paragliding won !!

Thanks very much for posting these pictures,  after seeing these no way am I going up that road.  I thought the roads around Yaka Park where bad.   However, after being on a coach at the Amalfi  coast and going around hairpin bends with tiny barriers I don't every want to repeat a similar journey

Quote from hillside.

"and where it is blocked paved the dolmus driver goes even faster .... whilst on his mobile phone announcing his imminent arrival" !

Simple solution to avoid the above, as there is enough road space to pull in and let the idiots, not just Dolmus drivers go past, we found that worked for us. We went up in Mid September and found the traffic pretty quiet.

As can be seen by the pictures, not without some dangers and anyone driving should be aware. For us a very enjoyable day!   :)   ;) 8)

Well, compared to the road up Mount Eren it looks like a motorway so will definitely go next year, be a nice present to myself for my 163rd Birthday!
