Well after the earthquake...........................
We are currently watching trees swirling side to side - everything removed by all owners from around the pool - it is unearthly hot and we can feel it coming.............
Batten down the hatches everyone.........................
-
Or , nice sea breeze, thieves after pool furniture and temperatures normal ! ;)
-
New table blown off the balcony, large umbrella ripped to shreds bloody winds
-
Really hope that post does come back to bite you Stan.
Hope everyone and everything stays safe.
-
we have a eucalyptus tree next door which every year blows its dusty spores all over my pool, what a shame its just snapped! ;D
-
Twister in Calis - and we were wondering how rumours such as the tsunami one got started........
For heavens sake it was a short lived gust of wind.
-
I would refer to the twister as hot wind! ;D
-
Not short lived here blowing a gale lasted about 40 mins lived here 4 years never seen it that bad Sat in car with air con on temp on balcony 100 degrees, still no power just totted up 700tl worth of damage hardly a short gust of wind.

Sorry to hear that about the damage - but 40 minutes to me is a short gust and that were no twister, our stuff was all stowed earlier as the forecast was for a high wind - which you often get after the sun goes down after a particularly hot day.

You must be in a different place to the rest of us Jim cos second only to last weeks earthquake that was the scariest thing ive experienced!
we live along the main road just before you turn down to get to sunset beach club and the new hotel theyre building, etc. so quite a way back from the sea really but my God, the wind was so strong and so hot! it was burning, 37 degrees according to my thermometer outside, i wouldnt be suprised if it has caused a few fires?
ive got sturdy wooden chairs and a table on my balcony and they blew over :-\ and the lightening was impressive too.
the windows in my house are broken now because the wind forced them open and broke the latches. so now they don't close, greaaat lol. my poor rabbit was on the balcony and was waiting by the door for us to let her in suprised she didnt blow away haha.
im convinced whoever said the world is ending in 2012 is right haha, starting in fethiye ;) im joking of course, but seriously, weird things happening!

We get the strong hot winds about this time every year. Usually last longer than 40 mins so a bonus this year.
-
It wasn't nearly as bad as 19th May, 5-6 years ago, when we had similar hot winds that lasted most of the day & well into the evening. Power lines were down all over, we were without power for 24hrs. It also caused several forest fires, including the one above Karagozler 2, where there is now the slogan formed from white stones
-
We lived out there for 6 years and the "hair-dryer" winds were an annual occurrence. Sometimes they lasted for several hours.
-
It's normal to have these high winds this time of year.

8.30 last night 31 deg in Ovacik, 8) This part of June we call Hairdryer weather, setting last night was to almost full power. Have known it to be around on and off for a few days some years. Turkish Mistrel/Sirocco?? Turkish Meltem??.. If thats the word quite appropriate!! :)

Yes and even better when you get them in Winter!

Apologies - if the title was mis-leading - it was semi tongue in cheek (a sort of what next?? comment) but it really was eerie - so very hot - then gusts just coming and disappearing lifting things up of the floor and then it went black with lightning in the distance.
Of course we have experienced hot winds before but this one felt different to me and I suspect to a few others as well.

Liz - remember it well - we were on a C & T 12 Island Tour and just docked as it hit - it was also Cup Final day. The winds that day were much stronger but this one was eerie and different in a sort of short bursts sort of way :-)

I hoped it was tongue in cheek when I wrote my comment / translation , hence the wink, with all the tsunami and earthquake mither, I thought a tornado unlikely .

"Calis Twister" -Frankly I thought it was going to be a competitor for the Wii nights :)

Our Turkish next door neighbour came rushing in last night, he pleaded with us to go up to Uzumulu saying that Calis was about to be submerged under 5 metres of water. He then took his family off to Hisaronu and has not been seen since. All quiet here now, well it was earlier when I walked over to Sovalye !

I can just see the big smile on your face Andy
