Turkish Mobile Phone & Package Costs
« on: July 22, 2017, 15:05:02 PM »
Hi All! Could you please give me some idea of cost to buy a Turkish handset along with Sim with 500 texts...500 mins....2GB data? Would I have to purchase the phone up front and pay monthly contract price for the SIM, or can you pay monthly for both as in UK? Or do you have to pay a certain rate per minute for calls?

I've got a Nokia Lumia 920, but it's a Windows 8.1 phone and it seems that many Apps, e.g. Snap Chat and Facebook Messenger have deserted Windows 8.1 and earlier. Looks like I may have to change to Android!
Your views will be appreciated! TIA.

From June this year a UK vodafone contract (and PAYG I think) is useable in Turkey and your minutes. texts and data are the same as you have at home. I would be looking at moving to them rather than getting a Turkish handset if I were you.

What I found with our Turkish PAYG was - don't use it and you lose it! We had to start again every time we went out which meant a trip to Fethiye and more money.

I signed up for a Vodafone 30 day contract and cancelled it after one month - as I only wanted it for our 10 day holiday in Turkey.

It was excellent - all my Uk data etc could be freely used as if at home as Stoop says.

I rang to cancel and had a few excuses ready for them for when they asked why I was cancelling - they didn't even ask and the cancellation call took about 2 minutes.

If it is for a holiday or a few months it avoids all the hassle and red tape of Turkcell.
