Refurbing Dble Glazed Seals and Grouting

We have had our place for 5 yrs and as we did not live here until now most things have not had much wear & tear but I have noticed the seals on some on the Dble glazed windows / doors look a little tired / ineffective and the Grouting / sealing around the frames has cracked / flaked over time with the extremes of temperatures.

Has anyone had these sort of jobs done as it would be too extreme to replace the frames but it would be good to tidy them up.

Any ideas - other than "do it yourself"

It is quite easy to DIY, it must be if I can do it!! I scraped out all the sealant & got a tube of silicone & a gun (both from Woolworths - much cheaper than B&Q) & hey presto

Hi Ian, I recently re-sealed my windows both inside and out and its not really that hard to do.
I popped down to what's known as the Fethiye B&Q and got myself sealant and pump gun. Some of the windows were worse than other so anything that was too loose I completely removed the old silicone, cleaned it and vacumed out the debrit, and then pumped in the new silicone. I smoothed in the new silicone by running my finger from the top to the bottom of the window and then cleared the exess with a damp cloth.
I tend to do this job every year and with the windows that are not too bad, I just add the sealant where I think its needed rather than clearing the lot (like above). If you are not confident about doing it, try it first with a small window to see how you get on.

sealants/silicone comes in different standards and prices.  The recommended one by professionals is Dayson( may be spelt Dyson)It is available in both Calis & Fethiye stores.

Thanks for your replies and I will give it a go with the sealant and gun but I was also referring to the rubber seals affixed to the doors that prevent draughts coming through.

Although ours work ok in about 90% of the length covered we do have some flat spots which are letting a draught in and I wondered if you could get these rubber strip seals replaced - don't even know if you could in the UK but often they repair here as opposed to replacing so I thought it was worth asking.

I have just replaced some rubber sealing, it cost 4 lira for 6 metres; just take the time doing it.

Alan - many thanks - was it self adhesive / sticky back or did you have to glue it?

Finally where did you buy it from  - a yapi maker place or a specialist Dble Glazing place?
