electric, water & council tax!
« on: July 05, 2012, 08:17:14 AM »
Hi, can someone tell me that it is possible to pay all the bill for an appartment from the UK? We are intending to come about 2-3 times a year at the moment because of working full time. I dont really want the expense of paying a maintenace company to pay these bills. Have I covered everything that would need to be paid for a property. Many thanks Diane

You can pay your water and electric by direct debit if you have a bank account, Council tax requires a trip to the Belediye in Fethiye once a year.

There was talk of being able to pay the council tax online, but at the moment a little hit and miss.  Council tax can be paid at at time of the year, but should you not pay in May there will be a small fine, I paid a year late a few years back and was fined 2TL. now I just don't worry and pay when I get there.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum. Whichever bank you choose, if you put your electric and water on DD you shouldn't get any bank charges. Do ask the bank if they do water bills DD as not all banks do. We have used TEB for over 4 years and been very happy with them.

We can pay our council tax in 2 payments . 1 in May and 1 in October. Because we live in Ciftlik we have to pay our water  bill to the local council.

In Fethiye, you can pay council tax anytime from Jan - May without any fine, thereafter, it is just a small amount. Likewise, if your bank doesn't do water by DD, the fine is minimal. At one time, I used to pay them 50tl up front, to avoid the fine & then I wouldn't get another bill until my credit was used

Where would you go to pay water bill?
I've been told our apartment uses its own spring water so does that mean we don't have one?
Only owned for 4 years and never even thought about it until now.
