Bad news for some!! Perhaps just for those who have been hiding the fact that they are living in Turkey, where such payment is NOT covered by EU law, as Turkey is not in Europe,( most isn't at least ).

And about time too.

It is shameful that expats claim an allowance which was designed to help the vulnerable in The United Kingdom.

I think it's shameful that the UK government take taxes from ex-pats to help pay for your winter fuel allowances.

I've paid into the system as much as every other pensioner, my fuel bills go up in the winter keeping the house warm and heating water but for some strange reason just because I could afford to buy a one way easy jet ticket to Turkey, my contributions to the system are forgotten.

And by the way Apollo, you are wrong. Winter fuel allowance is not designed to help the vulnerable, it is there as a benefit for every pensioner, like me, who has paid their dues !

I totally agree with Rimms. People seem to forget you have paid for it, the weather gets extremely cold in winter in many countries yet expats are always visualised sunning themselves on beaches all year round. Also, air con is horrendously expensive which is something we don't have to worry about in UK. Not to mention the double whammy of saving the NHS a load of money, while at the same time looking after your health in the better climate.

I actually believe us poor ex pats should receive

     S.F.P  too  (summer fuel payments)

costs us a fortune in air con July and August when it is so hot, does anyone feel sorry for us. I bet not.  ;)  ;)  ;)

Correction, Rimms is not " spot on " as Winter Fuel Benefit is applied once a person reaches the age of 60, & not when that person becomes a "pensioner" !! I thank you .  8)
