Hi Everybody,
After the uproar over the dreaded 4TL beer last year, for those of you winging your way to Calis this summer this may be of interest to you.
I was in a well known restaurant in Calis on Thursday night, where I was being charged 4TL for a beer. The manager informed me that from early June it will be going up to 5TL.
With the exchange rate currently stuck around 2.25TL to the pound, and little sign of any improvement due to the UK economy and the election result or lack of, coupled with the fact that 50CL is not a pint, I calculate that this would make the price of a pint in Calis £2.47
Hopefully not all establishments will follow suit, fingers crossed.
On Friday night I was looking at the menu board outside another well known and popular restaurant on Calis front. All the steaks on the menu were priced at 25.5TL, using the same exchange rate that is £11.33 just for your main course.
Finally a quote from the Governor of Fethiye in this weeks local paper, where he says that the problem with last year was not the number of incoming tourists but "The income incurred by their presence"
In other words you didnt spend enough money whilst you were here.
Looks like steps are being taken to rectify that, with petrol around £1.70 a litre and cigarettes nearly doubled in price over the last 2 years and beer likewise, not to mention the price of meat here now. So if you are heading to Calis this summer, be sure to bring plenty of money!!!
Happy days,
Gordon
