When you take down the decorations, put them in the loft and hoover and clean around the house.  It's a fact that for up to a week later there are always bits of glitter on the carpets...It's magic, just where does it come from?

When you put the lights away knowing damn well that they are in full working order they wont be when you get them out next year Jacqui. Sods law

A really good tip to keep tree lights untangled and working next year is to wind them around the cardboard tube which holds wrapping paper.  Sellotape the ends. (Sorry I digressed!)
