can you help re a wedding gift
« on: January 05, 2010, 20:47:05 PM »
Can anyone suggest a small suitable wedding gift for a well known  Calis Turkish Owners Son  and his new wife to be that we could buy ??.

we had an email to re confirm our bookings for this year [ our 9 th time at this hotel in 6 yrs], which we did , this was confirmed by return email along with an invite to the wedding on 30 january,.
.
This was completly unexpected and we feel so humble to receive this invatation from the owners son it just shows how wonderfull this Turkish family are .

I think it's a custom to pin money to them on the wedding day or a gold coin you can buy here.

We have heard of that custom too.

Alternatively, I would give the happy couple something specifically from your local area. I've always thought that is as equally respectful.

But up to you of course. I'm sure whatever you choose will be gratefully received.

Have a fun day.

as Firo says....the usual thing out here is to pin money to either the bride or groom...its different to the european way of giving a present BUT its the Turkish way of doing things.

According to an article in a newspaper recently if they are Muslims then a decent compass is  appreciated so they could know the direction of Mecca  from anywhere

its lovely you pin the money to a red sash on the bride and bridegroom, much more useful than presents you dont need.  Have a lovely time i know you will love it.

The last Turkish Wedding we went to I brought what I was asked to, a tray of pot noodles. Mind you, that was an English bride :D

nice one Keith  :).
only problem  being the Hotel is named after the Groom who drinks J. D..  Dont think that pot noodles will mix very well with that , on the wedding night  :o
