I went a couple of years ago and it was an excellent night if I remember rightly my alcohol induced memory loss is responsible to give more info on the night..
There was only 12 non-Turkish people there, but everyone enjoyed themselves. Not one sign of trouble at all.
I was forced to have some Raki, by a Turk I knew well, he just wouldn't take no for an answer. I didn't want to upset Eng/Turk relations so begrudgingly, I accepted.
I found out that beer whisky and Raki do not make for a good new years morning.

I didn't see John for 2 days after last year! He definitely went for his moneys worth!
A great night was had by all.
