There is no sim card in my iPad so I only connect wirelessly.
Out and about taking photos yesterday and when I got home and the iPad syncd with my laptop and sent the pics via photo stream, it tells me where the pics were taken......how the bloody hell does it do that???? :o

I absolutely love technology! I am old enough to do a "wow" over anything new that happens, yet I like to think young enough to want to be able to learn and use it all! This year's wow item was FaceTime on my little Ipod! I think it is so clever that I can sit in a bar in Calis and chat to my sister back home! I gave her a little tour of where we were! Brilliant....

Not sure gps needs a SIM card. My iPhone works great as a sat nav (Nav Free for those interested. You can get most of the world free as well) and doesn't use any data just GPS.

Most of these devices have a GPS in them now and getting your position coordinates is free. What usually costs money is overlaying that position on a map - its the map download that is rarely free.

I think you'll find it does. Albeit, non-removable. Check in the 'Settings' > 'Connections' > 'Network' section of your unit and you'll see it has a SIM ID and an IMEI.

From the trade review on a Tom Tom Start 60 Europe:
As it’s one of TomTom’s bottom-end satnavs, the Start 60 doesn’t have an integrated SIM card and GPRS modem, and that means no traffic alerts via TomTom HD Traffic. It is possible to add an FM-based TMC receiver for traffic, but this isn’t as comprehensive or accurate .
As you can imagine with me - cheapest is best - bottom end - sums it up or have they lied and sold me a better one than I thought I was getting :)

Well my iphone 4 works great on gps and doesn't cost one penny to use. No data use at all to use the free sat nav. If it uses the sim then at least it's free :)
