Bumped into an old friend in Migros, Altintepe wine. I put a post on the forum last year singing it's praises but forgot all about it until I saw it in Migros . When I spoke about it last year it was 28 tl, you can get it now for 23.50 tl. for a litre. It really is worth a try. If you buy one and dont like it you can hand the remains of the bottle into me at the Sunset apts.

Bought a bottle of wine last week and then today and noticed the price had gone up 3%.

Or alternatively use it to clean your lavvy. Over the years I've found that most cheap Turkish wines are great for cleaning toilets, they get rid of even the most stubborn ones... ;)

Maybe it was a special offer last week ;) ;) ;)

Gone up 3% is a sterling price reduction most weeks lately :D

Our everyday Verdejo just went up by fifteen cents, it's now €2.60 a bottle :)
Just thought I'd mention it...

Well everythings better in Spain, In It? Just saying!????????????????

Thanks for the heads up. Altinpepe wine is very acceptable and would never use it to flush out anything apart from my kidneys. :D

Not everything, but the wine certainly is!
It's always been something that I found curious - Turkey has some of the best soil for producing grapes, and coupled with the climate in the current wine growing areas, it should be churning out gallons of decent quality wines, right across the price range. I know that in recent years the producers have had to contend with a government that would rather they simply weren't there, but even before the AKP went on their anti alcohol crusade it was the same story.
Turkey is capable of producing stunning wines. I know, I've tried a few - but they come at a price you would baulk at for everyday drinking, even on a free spending holiday. So why not let this quality filter down through the price range? I don't know the answer to that one, and I wonder if the producers do either.
Interestingly, when Yengeç first started up, I seem to remember that their wine selection (no list, just a trolley full of bottles!) was pretty much all imported. Mostly New World stuff and we always speculated as to how they got their stock as everything was 30tl! Black painted cigarette boats off loading cases of NZ SB at three in morning mibbe... :)

Receps started me on angora, I blame him.

Well John F I have tasted some Spanish wines that not only will clean your lavvy but will also unblock your drains.
-
I'm sure you have... but if you'd bothered to spend a few cents more, and not bought the stuff in the plastic bottle at fifty cents a litre, you'd have saved your palate a lot of grief.

Does anyone remember Biricik? Still one of the best wines we had in the early days.. 2.5 lira a bottle or 7 for a green flagon that also came in handy as a flower vase.. Kavak is about our favourite but the price difference in the various restaurants is incredible.. We had Altintepe at our AI last month in Sarigerme.. I don't remember that it was as bad as that when we lived there. We have some decent wines from Aldi.. Australia.. New Zealand . Chillean and French for between 4 and 6 pounds.. The worst of them isn't as bad as Turkish wine.. I was once asked "which is the best Turkish wine" ? I said "one that doesn't make you shudder on first sip".
