Title: Spectacles
Post by: LindseyMitchell on August 30, 2018, 13:31:08 PM
Tomorrow, I’m having an eye test;  this is free as I’m over 60.
I arrive for our holiday in Calis next Wednesday.
At the moment, I only wear glasses for reading, but I may need a new prescription, or indeed full time glasses.
Would I be better bringing my prescription to Turkey to be made up, and if so, which shop would you recommend?

Definitely worth bringing your prescription to Turkey.

Others will be along later to make recommendations for shops.

If your prescription is fairly straightforward, you'll probably find it's cheaper here. Anything more complicated such as varifocals & reactorlites, & the price is pretty much on a par with Specsavers & the like. I use Cem Opticians, on the main road into Fethiye, just down from the dolmus station & mosque & they're on the corner of I think the 2nd pedestranised road. Eray Kirtisaye is next door.

I used the optician in Calis opposite Ali's bar.  Really pleased with mine.

I live in Ovacik and used Göz Optics nearby in Hisaronu, as have my brother and mother when visiting. I recently acquired transition Free Form lenses from there and am very happy with the quality of the glasses and the excellent service. If I walk past his shop, he always asks me how I'm getting on with my glasses and reminds me that I can take them in for adjustment or for minor repairs free of charge.

It certainly seems a good idea to consider buying glasses here   :)

Is that the one quite near Joseph’s bar, Bluewise?

Yes, think there's only one on that road.  Also great feedback seen for the one up the sunday market road.  I'll try and find the name for you.  As Menthol said, I too have found the quality of the lens much better than at home - (varifocal/transitions)

What are the prices like compared to uk Bluewise? I have varifocals/transitions and when I looked at getting some out there a few years ago they were more expensive.

I don’t think glasses are cheaper in Turkey, as they once were. There are so many places selling glasses in the U.K., including the supermarkets that prices are very competitive. Depending on age and financial status there are discounts in the U.K.  Best advice is to pricevwhst you like in the UK and compare like for like in Turkey.

Is that Star Optics in between Alo 24 and the new supermarket, Uzunkaya?
