More hotels threaten the environment
« on: January 02, 2019, 09:24:02 AM »

If plans are passed there will be four hotels in that picture soon!

Already we have the Sensatori and the Residence opens this summer.

On top of that another is on its way to the right of that picture (Karatas Beach) and we are now hearing yet another one is in the planning stage.

The threat to the turtles, wildlife and flooding in the koca Çalis area in real. They’ve already completely filled in one section of the canal for some mad reason.

There is a proposal to build more hotel complexes between Barut Sensatori Hotel & the canal at Karataş. There is a public meeting tomorrow at 14:00 (2PM) at  Deniz incisi Restaurant, Karataş to hear of any environmental concerns regarding this proposal. i urge anyone who has any concerns to attend tomorrow, 3 JANUARY 2019, to air their concerns.

The right of the Sensatori as you look at the picture is development is by Lykia Group, My contact has heard various reports including it will be a Sentido property for Thomas Cook.

In 2018 they were doing all the ‘drainage ‘ groundwork but all she could see was a massive puddle when she was there.

Think opening will be 2020/21.

It's called progress.Things don't stand still. Life goes on and this situation is one of those. The infrastructure around will get adapted and the canal will get sorted out. Decades ago Calis Beach used to be a railway line for mining and look at it now. A prospering tourist attraction bringing jobs and prosperity to the region. Bring it on.

The canal has been filled in by a local restaurant to form a playground/re recreation area. The guy owns the tapu and the council have said he can do what he wants as it’s his land.

Three years ago the Sensatori builders (Barut?) built a staff accommodation block after filling in half a lake first and reclaiming the land. It’s really helped with the flooding issues - not!

Call it progress if you want but the loss of Karatas beach to locals and the potential damage to the turtle population are two huge issues. Do we really need four AI hotels in that area?

The environment is one thing but ‘affordability’ is yet another.  The cost of flights and holidays to Calis have increased greatly this year and with the prices charged by the like of the Java, it’s not everyone who could afford to holiday there or to similar hotels.  Of course there is the Russian market I suppose.

Thats quite a lot of development for a small area. Development for Koca Calis has been speculated for as long as I can remember.
Lots of rain around this winter, our caretaker/gardener has sent a video link today and although very wet there's no flooding on Telemessos, we were a bit worried this might happen with some of the lake been filled in , but the canal dredging must of helped.

I can see the progress view, also the nimby view and enviroview. But for what it’s worth Deniz Incizi nice place, out of the way and quiet beach. The canal leading down was scruffy as was the side of Karatas that the locals use for picnics, camping etc and the inevitable piles of waste they left.So filling the canal in and cleaning up the area not a bad thing, more large hotels mmmmm, not sure.

Not strictly true of course. I remember putting more than my two penneth in for the dolphins, for example. I supported that 100%. I'm sure I could find other examples but I'm not really that fussed what you think.

The thing with this project is that it will not only affect the local turtles and wildlife but it will also affect the use of the beach by locals and those who aren't holidaying in the big hotels. It could also be devastating for the Koca Calis area unless adequate drainage is put in. Certainly blocking a canal is something I'm dead against and should be illegal if it isn't already in Turkey.

Filling in a canal is not a bad thing? Let's fill all the Calis canals in and see what devastation it causes!

Unbelievable!
