Title: MiFi
Post by: Jeannie on March 29, 2017, 14:24:11 PM
Hi, I normally take my Laptop to Calis as we are there for 2 months, I have a Turkcell Vinn I normally use...  however with the new ruling of Laptops etc having to go in the hold  on the flight I am reluctant to take it with me. I have a Samsung tablet and was wondering if anyone knows if I purchases a Turkcell Mifi will it work with my Tablet? I would be grateful for any information anybody has. Thank You.

Yes it will work. It's password protected so you just enter the password into your tablet as you would with any wifi connection.

Which is fine provided that the tablet is no bigger than:
length: 16.0cm
•width: 9.3cm
•depth: 1.5cm
= 6.29"
=3.66"
=0.59"

Most tablets are larger than this and therefor come under the same restrictions as laptops. :(

Yes it will work Jeannie, All a Mifi does is create a wifi signal from your sim card. You can usually connect 5 or 6 devices to it. If you already have a vinn you can use the sim from that just buy the Mifi. I think you will have to buy one in Turkey, I was told that UK ones don't work.

I have one Jeanie and it connects easily to my ipad. Im still undecided whether to take my ipad next month as dont really want it going in the hold on the return journey...i read on fb earlier someone flew home from Turkey yesterday ( Dalaman) and they said they have never seen security so tight there, which of course can only be a good thing   :)

I will wait and see, as there was a piece in the press that they may take the restrictions for electronic equipment away from Turkey.

Do mifi units get blocked if you use a UK one with a TR sim, like phones do? I assume they do as they have their own IMEI number - but haven't heard of this actually happening to anyone...

Theoretically they should.  However, I suspect the majority of folks who use a UK MiFi unit are on holiday as opposed to using it constantly so never actually rack up sufficient time for the provider to block it.

Or I could simply be talking bollox  :)

That's a strange one Jeannie? Are you normally able to access you're online banking using the Samsung tablet ? Try accessing the online banking with a free VPN. Green VPN works in turkey.
