Another reply to the letter in the Fethiye Times, http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=678&Itemid=128

I agree with this and do not feel it is restricted to Hisaronu, now lot's of the open fields around Calis are filled with EMPTY, Un-Sold villas and apartments, they seem to have taken to moving in on the little plots in the more established areas, many people will know our place is by the Hotel Ernur, until recently it had plenty of plots that were market gardens, grazed by goats and chickens or farmed for small crops. These areas really added a strange charm to the place, unfortunately, most have now been snapped up and are either building sites or large blocks of EMPTY, Un-Sold apartments!

Will they ever learn?

Rimms

We have been on nights out to Hisaronu several times during May, June July and September. Never have we seen it as busy as it should be. I think that the bar owners who are saying that it hasn't been too bad are trying to delude people. We went to Icmeler first week in October and it was very busy. The beaches and the bars. We were quite surprised as we had just been to Hisaronu the week before and so expected Icmeler to be just as quiet. For last few weeks Hisaronu was like a ghost town. At 10 and 11 p.m. the waiters were playing football across the streets. There is a quiet season and a disastrous one. Many of the waiters have gone home 4 or 5 weeks early. I don't think that many of them will be happy.

We have been living in Akarca since January 2004, and until this year, I used to go up to Hisaronu once a month,{more often if we had guests,}as I am a karaoke freak, and love Time Out and Hakuna Matata bars. However, the exorbitant cost of a taxi back home totally ruined this for me,we were asked for 45 YTL from the taxi rank, we told him, {politely, of course}.where to put his taxi, and I phoned our friendly taxi owner, Ahmet. Now this was 3 in the morning, Ahmet came all the way from Fethiye in about 15 minutes, took us home and the cost?? 25 YTL!!!!:D:D which is the day=time rate. Good on you Ahmet.
P.S.By the way, Ahmet is working for tourists/residents all year, and speaks English.
Gordy.

Hisaronu was surprisingly busy last weekend for this time of year. Hope this is a good sign for the rest of the season.

:) A good letter Rimms, but could you elaborate on the visa bit, what did you mean by one week,:P I can picture the description of your home and what drew you there, many a time as we have been driving through some lovely places, we think, if only, and its not nice for you to be surrounded by new unfinished homes, I would much prefer the sound of the animals. ;)
