car in for six months
« on: October 27, 2006, 09:30:46 AM »
if I drive over I understand that the car in ok for 6 months then out for 6 months however as the £10 visa lasts for only half that time, and as one can't do the boat to rhodes for a new stamped £10 visa as you can't leave country without car, what is the best and cheapest way around this or is this catch22? :)

You can leave the country without car but you have to take your car to customs and when you come back from Rhodes you can take you car back  :)

you can dump the car in customs and maybe the nearest for you is Dalaman airport or Antalya or you can just apply for a 3 months residence permit just before your 3 month tourist visa is up.
Dont know which one is cheaper as you need to find out where the nearest customs is that will accept cars.

If you want to leave the country, for a weeks holiday, before the 6 months is up do you know how much you have to pay when you leave the car at customs in Dalaman or is it free?
Also apart from taking the car back to Uk at the end of the 6 months can it be scrapped in Turkey by customs and is there a charge?
Have also heard that certain rules apply to people who are retired that they can import a car without the 6 month ruling. What are the qualifiactions for this?

costs around 8 USD per day to have your car impounded. You can also just sign off to the turkish state by handing it to customs, does cost a few lira but nothing to hurt the pocket. Loads of paperwork though.
If you want to get your car 'M' plated then you will need to get a retirement visa from the Turkish consulate in your last country of residence.

or buy a car here. importing UK cars is no fun and hurts the wallet big time.
