How does this work?
« on: December 30, 2010, 09:48:51 AM »
According to news reports young people have a terrible lifestyle. They consume enormous quantities of alcohol all in one go, eat junk food, don't take any exercise and are disgustingly obese. Now I learn that this is such a healthy way of life that 10 million of them are expected to live over a hundred years of age and this will cost the country a fortune in pensions that we ought to start cutting now.

How can this be? It doesn't seem to have worked for me.

Maybe it's the same thinking that warns us about global warming as we look out on, yet another, snowy winter.

Maybe the amount of alcohol and fat consumed together with the lack of execise will act as preservatives ?

In a strange way , I envy couch potatoes.  I have always spent my life doing things ( including lots of sports). Now I am getting older I cannot do the things I used to do (in the words of a Leonard Cohen song " I ache in the places where I used to play") and, in the long run, I guess I will spend more time in front of the TV. How horrendous is that ? It will be OK for the couch potatoes because that is all they have known and so life will continue as before.

That's what I find most annoying about "fit" people. They seem to spend a huge amount of their time unfit to do anything other than whinge about their latest injury. :D ;):D

I guess you're right KKOB. If you accept that you're over the hill at 40 and expect to live to be 100, then that gives 60 years of moaning time.[^]
Mind you, you had never struck me as an unfit person yourself  :), but I only have your picture and past comments to go on.
