returning after 6 months on blue book
« on: April 10, 2015, 10:05:37 AM »
Does anyone have experience of returning to Turkey on an existing blue book resident permit since April? We will be heading back end of the month, I have no valid permit now so will enter on e visa, husband has one year left on blue book style permit, but we have been out since October. We will clear immigration in Istanbul. So  dilemma is wether also to get husband e visa, and wether this would have any effect on existing permit should he be allowed in on it.

Try using existing RP - they may let him in, they may not.  There's still a visa counter at Ataturk, at the large windows opposite passport control, where you can pay £20 for an entry visa.  They're supposed to be getting phased out but a friend got one there a couple of weeks ago.

We returned to Turkey last week arriving at Dalaman. We had been out of the country for more than 120 days and followed advice to obtain E-visas in advance. The passport official asked us why we had bought a visa as we had residency.
Our 3 year residency expires in September and we will be calling into Fethiye Police tomorrow to see if our residency is still valid. Will let you know the outcome.
For the price of $20 per person an E-visa is well worth it in the light of the uncertainty whether the legislation is being enforced rigorously this year.

My understanding is that they can't tell how many days youve had out and doesn't show as invalid on the system when you come in.
It's apparently as you go back out that the problem arises. You're right to check with passport police, and show you're trying to obey the ( new) rules, and maybe they will be more lenient with the fine.

Probably another rumour but apparently someone refused to pay their fine and has been banned from returning for 5 years and their husband loves in Turkey.
Hopefully not true, would be awful.

That rumour is untrue kayakebab. I know the  couple concerned. She is back in Turkey now.

Hi Brian,

How did you get on with the Fethiye police ref your residncy permit. We will be in the same position as you later in the year.

Don
The situation today is that my husband's blue book permit had not been cancelled, he still has a year on it and therefore can stay on that until we leave later in the year. I state the situation as it was today..as we know things can change in Turkey!

Thanks Lorraine.

We left Turkey on Monday and had no problems with the passport police when we presented our RP at Dalaman, they just had a quick look and stamped the passport.

When you say your husbands RP has not been cancelled did he go to the authorities in Fethiye and ask if it was still valid?

No we did not visit passport police. Agent told us that permit will not have been cancelled.
