Davybill,
About 18 months ago it was announced that residency applications and renewals would be handled by one department, the GDMM rather than multiple agencies with the whole process led by the police, this of course was seen as a simplification and a convenient step forward for foreigners. The GDMM announced that across the nation there would be a series of 'one stop' offices established where all the staff would have up to date training on residency rules and that would be the focal point for those applying.
As you may have seen, the transition from the police to this new agency has been a nightmare for many with not only differences being called for across regions, but in some cases individuals within departments processing applications under what could only be described as their own interpretation of the rules.
Tuesday of this week it was announced that all future applications and renewals will pass from the police to the GDMM offices and a six day hand over period to May 18th would be put in place, during the hand over, no new applications will be accepted.
Now for what may be the bad news, at a meeting run by the Consulate here in Fethiye about 18 months ago when this plan was being announced, it was understood that we would have a GDMM office here, and although we still might have, there isn't one yet with our nearest office being located in Mugla. At this point, it seems that you may need to travel to Mugla to complete a new application or renewal.
There has been some talk that an 'online' system will be put in place but that isn't confirmed and certainly not in place right now.
