« on: July 20, 2015, 12:29:48 PM »
A bomb blast has killed at least 27 people and injured 50 in Suruç a Turkish town close to the Syrian border around Kobane. The target was young people from all over Turkey attending an event of the Socialist Youth Association. Today's Zaman has video footage of the explosion.

Hurriyet is suggesting that the explosion was triggered by an 18 year old female suicide bomber who was a member of ISIL.

That's a question which maybe best left unanswered on an open forum, although I do think most know the answer anyway.

Read into this what you will.  A thousand or so IS supporters having a prayer session on the outskirts of Istanbul on Sunday just gone, with a speech by Halis Bayancuk, also known as Abu Hanzala, one of IS's top dogs in Turkey.  No arrests made despite various government statements regarding a crack down on IS within Turkey.

"Bayancuk was detained in raids against al-Qaeda cells by the police and gendarmerie units in six provinces across Turkey on Jan. 14, 2014, but was let go after no indictment was prepared against him. It is unclear why the prosecutor's office did not indict him, although several others have already been charged."

Ok, maybe lack of hard evidence etc?

"The government removed the police chiefs who undertook the operation from the investigation while reassigning the prosecutor who handled the case and the judge who authorized the raids."

Ah...  now we know why he wasn't charged then.

It's no wonder folks are out in the streets of Istanbul and Ankara - and getting beaten, tear gassed and injured by water cannons because they dare to question the AK party's motives and affiliations.
